Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear John,
I am writing this letter to appreciate on your decision on going for camping holiday in upcoming summer. I still couldn't believe you finally took this bold step. I know you might be feeling little nervous as this is going to be your first camping experience nevertheless I am confident that you will enjoy this whole experience as you will observe nature from a very close angle.
Furthermore, I am hoping you might have already started preparing for the vacation. I strongly recommend to carry extra supplies of first aid boxes as this will help you in any unfortunate incident.
Additionally, the only two possible cons I believe of this trip would be, you might end up suffering from Diarrhea and obviously mosquitos bites all over your body. But again you can survive if you carry extra drinkable water and body spray with you.
you.
Moreover, I can also join you on your first camping trip if you have extra seat available. let me know if you can accommodate in your plan and then we can discuss further.
regards,
Navdeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain why your friend would enjoy camping, describe potential disadvantages like illness and insects, and express your interest in joining. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal style throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the advice regarding 'first aid boxes' and the 'cons' could be expanded with more descriptive detail to better meet the requirements of a fully developed response. Overall, the task is addressed clearly and effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Additionally', and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, though the sentence structure in the final paragraph is a bit fragmented. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas feels more natural and less like a list of points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using words like 'unfortunate', 'accommodate', and 'nevertheless'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'appreciate on your decision' (should be 'appreciate your decision') and 'drinkable water' (potable water is more precise). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the overall range is somewhat limited. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and precise terminology related to camping and travel.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'going for camping holiday' (should be 'going on a camping holiday'), 'feeling little nervous' (missing 'a'), and 'mosquitos bites' (should be 'mosquito bites'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence boundaries and missing articles. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage to improve accuracy.
