Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Tim,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter because I heard that you are going to plan a camping trip with your friends very first time and also I got your email that you want some advice.

However, camping is best experience in a life that you will enjoy it because I have lots of experience about camping. I would like to recommend a very beautiful place nearby your house is Watertown jungle which is very suspicious place. you would definitely enjoying this trip because you may reduce your stress and more attach with beautiful nature with fresh air. moreover, i advise you that grab your medicine with you and also keep torch and equipment for campfire.

camping is good physical activity but even-though there is also disadvantages for this such as you might be feel uncomfortable sleeps and bad weather is a common issue for many campers.in Watertown area, there is mosquitoes problem so bring protection gel for your body.

i would also like to join you because it would be more fun to experience together.let me know when you decide dates and time.i look forward to your response.

Best wishes,

Maitri.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain the benefits of camping, mention potential downsides like discomfort and mosquitoes, and express a clear desire to join the trip. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the advice regarding the 'Watertown jungle' is a bit vague, and the description of disadvantages could be more detailed to fully satisfy the task requirements. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, though the structure could be more polished to ensure all points are fully extended rather than just mentioned.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'however', 'moreover', and 'also', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or forced. The referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed. For example, the transition between the benefits of camping and the advice on equipment could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used naturally would help elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, but there are several instances of inaccurate word choice. For example, you describe the location as a 'suspicious place' when you likely meant 'spectacular' or 'scenic'. Additionally, 'attach with beautiful nature' is not a standard collocation; 'connecting with nature' would be more natural. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'campfire' and 'equipment', the overall precision is inconsistent. Focusing on learning common collocations and checking word meanings will help you communicate more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

Your writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'in a life'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'you would definitely enjoying'), and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods and commas. Some sentences are also slightly awkward, such as 'I am writing this letter because I heard that you are going to plan a camping trip... very first time'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent tense usage, and basic punctuation rules.
