Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear John,
I hope you are doing great. In your last letter you told me that you are planning to go on camping this summer, and you were also asking me to give you some advice about it. It is a good decision to go on camping, as it will be a wonderful experience and you will enjoy. Moreover, the weather and the greenery of the site will enhance your mood and release your stress.
Although there are many benefits of going on trip, some of the disadvantages are animal attacks, thefts and limited resources like hot water and bathrooms. However, you can cook if you have arranged the setup, as food prices in these areas are touching skies.
I would love to join you in this journey but, unfortunately, I have a very important assignment to complete by the end of next week. I will definitely come to see your pictures and listen to your stories when you will be back. We will together some other times. Till then take care of yourself and enjoy to the fullest.
Loads of love.
Sammy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and stating your availability. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention 'animal attacks' and 'limited resources' as disadvantages, these points could be expanded with a bit more detail to fully satisfy the requirement for extended ideas. The response is clear and maintains a consistent, friendly tone throughout, which helps in achieving the task requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Although', and 'However' to link your ideas. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. For example, the shift between the benefits and the disadvantages could be smoothed out with more varied linking phrases. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow, making the letter coherent and well-structured for a task of this nature.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'enhance your mood', 'release your stress', and 'enjoy to the fullest' are natural and appropriate. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'go on camping' (should be 'go camping') and 'touching skies' (the idiom is 'skyrocketing' or 'sky-high'). While these errors do not impede communication, using more precise vocabulary would elevate your score. You have a sufficient range to convey your message clearly, but more variety in descriptive language would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'We will together some other times' (missing a verb, e.g., 'We will go together') and 'when you will be back' (the present tense 'when you are back' is preferred in time clauses). Additionally, 'enjoy' in 'you will enjoy' requires an object (e.g., 'enjoy yourself'). Despite these slips, the meaning is always clear, and the errors do not significantly hinder the reader's understanding. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures and verb tense consistency will help improve your accuracy.
