Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sania,
I hope you are doing fantastic. I write this letter to advice you for your first camp tour.
I think you should go this camping because you can learn a lot from this travel and enjoy throughout the holidays. The key reason is you will be able to see all the scenery of mountains while living in a tent. Moreover, you can build your strength by hiking those mountains and experience the amazing paths. Hence, I believe you should not miss this chance.
Although this trip has some negligible disadvantages, you can find fun in it. First of all, you have to stay in a tent between mountains, which might be uncomfortable for you. Secondly, you can not have delicious cuisine because you can only eat simple meals every day. Lastly, as you have to walk a lot, you require physical strength.
If I get the chance, then I would love to go with you for this unique experience. As it will be one of the most memorable moments for every participant, I will try to come.
Let me know if you need anything. I hope you make good memories on this trip.
Yours lovingly,
Sara

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain the benefits of camping, such as scenery and physical activity, and provide relevant disadvantages like discomfort and limited food options. Your position regarding joining your friend is also clearly stated. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal register throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are developed with slightly more depth; for example, instead of just mentioning 'simple meals', you could briefly explain why this might be a challenge for someone used to home cooking.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each bullet point, and a concluding remark. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Hence', 'First of all', and 'Secondly' to guide the reader through your points. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the flow between some sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the disadvantages and the conclusion could be more fluid. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the structure supports the purpose of the letter effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'memorable moments' and 'unique experience' are used correctly. However, there are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'advice' (which should be the verb 'advise') and 'camp tour' (which is not a standard collocation; 'camping trip' would be more natural). You rely on some common vocabulary, and incorporating more precise or descriptive adjectives would enhance your writing. The errors present do not impede communication, but they do limit the score to the 6.0-6.5 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'I write this letter to advice you' (should be 'advise') and 'you can not have delicious cuisine' (which sounds slightly unnatural in this context). Additionally, there is a minor error in 'I hope you make good memories on this trip' (usually 'create' or 'have' memories). Despite these slips, your meaning is always clear, and the errors do not cause confusion for the reader. To improve, focus on verb-noun collocations and consistent verb tense usage.
