Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Matt,
I hope you are doing well, I am writing this letter to give few recommandation for summer holiday. As this your first trip in this summer, so I have one location in mind that you enjoyed it if you visit there.
My sister visited the Toronto Island last year with her friends, and she told various good things about that place such as Island organised multiple activities for their visitors especially during summer. In addition, you can do boating from that we can see amazing views of high-rise building and city centre and also it have many excellent sort where you can take some pictures of yourself.
However, this loaction have limited disadvantages, for example, it is extremely crowded place due to that you have to wait for the lorger period to get ferry or to obtain tickets for certain activities. Morever, food is very expensive as it situated far way from city.
I would love to involve with you for this trip as because I am very tried from my daily work and this trip will improve my energy and well-being as well our bonding. We will have good time togther.
Regardly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You explain why your friend would enjoy camping, mention the disadvantages of crowds and high prices, and confirm your interest in joining. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion of Toronto Island is specific, but the explanation of why it is a 'camping' holiday is slightly unclear, as the description focuses more on a day trip than a camping experience. To improve, ensure that your ideas are more fully developed and directly relevant to the specific context of camping. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a consistent personal register throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'However', and 'Morever' (a spelling error for 'Moreover'). While these are functional, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though some transitions could be smoother to improve the overall readability. The paragraphing is logical, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task, which is a strength of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'high-rise building' and 'well-being'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'recommandation' (recommendation), 'lorger' (longer), 'tried' (tired), and 'Regardly' (Regards). Additionally, phrases like 'do boating' and 'excellent sort' are not natural collocations. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise vocabulary and ensuring correct spelling and word formation. While the errors do not impede communication, they are noticeable throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include 'as this your first trip', 'you enjoyed it if you visit there', 'it have many excellent sort', and 'I would love to involve with you'. These errors involve subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and prepositional phrases. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score.
