Student answer (Band 6.5)
Hey John,
I hope you are doing well in your life. I am glad that you are going for camping and exploring the beautiful nature. There are several reasons, which can make your trip memorable.
Firstly, the place you are going is full with biodiversity and covered with several eye catching views. Also, there is a river near the campsite, which has clean water and marine life. Overall, it will be a great place to camp and I believe that you will enjoy a lot.
Although this place is amazing to spend your holidays, there are some drawbacks. While the camp site has major amenities such as clean water and washroom, it does not have the electricity and internet. Also, you might found insects in your tent. Hence, make sure to carry power banks and essential medications.
If possible, I would love to join you with your first camping trip because it has been a while since we have went to a trip. Also, we will explore the place during our holiday and will click several pictures to post on social media.
I look forward to seeing you soon.
Jason

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why your friend would enjoy the trip, provided relevant disadvantages, and clearly stated your interest in joining. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the practical advice regarding the lack of electricity and the presence of insects. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening and closing are more naturally integrated into the flow of the letter, as the current structure feels slightly formulaic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Also', and 'Hence' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. For instance, the transition between the benefits and the drawbacks could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple sentence starters.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task. Phrases like 'eye catching views', 'marine life', and 'essential medications' are used correctly. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'full with biodiversity' (should be 'full of') and 'since we have went to a trip' (should be 'been on a trip'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and idiomatic expressions that would naturally occur in a friendly letter to enhance the descriptive quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'you might found' (should be 'find'), 'it does not have the electricity' (remove 'the'), and 'since we have went' (should be 'been'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more careful proofreading, particularly with verb tenses and article usage. Increasing the variety of complex structures would also help elevate your score.
