Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Raman,

I am writing to let you know that you should go on a camping holiday because going out is the best way to get relief from stress. However, it's also an amazing time that you can enjoy and do some fun activities.

Let me explain: you can enjoy a lot, but there are also some disadvantages of a camping holiday, such as unpredictable weather. Make sure you are prepared for harsh weather as well as bring some basic things such as water, snacks and so on.

I am also a person who enjoys camping a lot. I also have a little bit expeirence of doing a camping. We need oragnizer for tent also lot of things I will bring with me. Whenever you have time, just let me know which dates work best for you so we can plan.

Thank you. I am waiting for your response.

Yours lovingly,

Jashan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain why camping is enjoyable, mention the disadvantage of unpredictable weather, and confirm your interest in joining your friend. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For instance, the explanation of why camping is enjoyable is brief and lacks specific detail. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points by providing personal anecdotes or more descriptive reasons. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, but the overall content feels somewhat underdeveloped, which prevents it from reaching a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'However' and 'also' to link ideas. However, the progression between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow would benefit from a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your thoughts more naturally. The paragraphing is sufficient for this task type.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'unpredictable weather' and 'fun activities'. However, there are some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'doing a camping' and 'need oragnizer for tent', which are not natural collocations. There are also minor spelling errors like 'expeirence' and 'oragnizer'. To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary and checking your spelling. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on simple, everyday words rather than more descriptive or idiomatic language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I also have a little bit expeirence of doing a camping' and 'We need oragnizer for tent'. These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they are frequent enough to affect the overall quality of the writing. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures will help you achieve a higher band score in this criterion.
