Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Raj,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to give you some advice regarding camping, as I know that you are going for the first time this summer.
There are so many things to do on a camping, and trust me it will be your life's one of the best experience. Well, you will see many amazing views, and different types of things, which you have never even explored. The best part is you will make some good friends and best memories of your life. However, there are few negative parts as well like, there will be high risk of your life, and sometimes it requires extra protection clothes, but it can be safer if you go with experts.
Moreover, I am planning to come with you, cause it is been now two year since we last met. So this will be best time to enjoy together and do some adventure.
I hope to see you soon.
Best wishes,
Jaimin

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain why your friend would enjoy camping, mention potential disadvantages, and confirm your interest in joining. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the 'disadvantages' section is vague, mentioning a 'high risk of your life' without clarifying what those risks are, which makes the advice feel less authentic. To improve, try to provide more specific, realistic examples of camping challenges, such as unpredictable weather or the lack of modern facilities, to better demonstrate your ability to expand on ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Moreover' to transition between ideas. While the flow is generally easy to follow, the paragraphing is slightly disjointed, and some sentences feel a bit repetitive. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus. The progression of ideas is present, but the connections between sentences could be made more sophisticated to improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some natural phrases like 'doing well' and 'best memories of your life'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'on a camping' (should be 'on a camping trip') and 'life's one of the best experience' (should be 'one of the best experiences of your life'). To improve, focus on collocations and ensure you are using nouns and adjectives correctly. Expanding your range of descriptive language would also help make your writing more engaging.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'it is been now two year' (should be 'it has been two years') and 'there will be high risk of your life' (should be 'there will be a high risk to your life'). These errors are frequent but do not impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, pluralization, and the correct use of articles. Practicing more complex sentence forms while ensuring accuracy will help you move into a higher band.
