Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Neha,

Hope you are doing well.

I am doing great. Since you are planning to go for a camping this summer here are few suggestions.

I think you will enjoy camping holiday as your love towards nature makes it most exciting and star gazing is one of the major thing you will enjoy doing while camping.

Although you experience nature, there are some disadvantages. There won't be proper arrangements for washroom, in the night there will be more mosquitoes and flies and it might be difficult to get drinking water.

Since from our last trip we did not get much time to spend together. I would like to join camping to spend time with you by doing activities like trekking, hiking and create some beautiful memories.

I would like to know if you thought of any camping place that you wish to go for?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours lovingly,

Y.Veena.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain why your friend would enjoy camping, list specific disadvantages such as the lack of washroom facilities and mosquitoes, and confirm your interest in joining the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'why'—for example, by describing the specific emotional benefits of disconnecting from technology or the unique atmosphere of a campfire. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each bullet point, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Although' and 'Since' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that transitions are smoother. For instance, the transition between the disadvantages and your desire to join the trip is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used correctly, which helps the reader follow your train of thought easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'star gazing', 'trekking', and 'beautiful memories'. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'your love towards nature' (should be 'your love of nature') and 'major thing' (which is quite informal). While the vocabulary is adequate for this task, incorporating more precise adjectives or idiomatic expressions would enhance the naturalness of your writing and help you achieve a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'go for a camping' (should be 'go camping'), 'as your love towards nature makes it most exciting' (missing an article), and 'Since from our last trip' (redundant preposition). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on article usage and prepositional phrases, and try to vary your sentence structure further by using more complex subordinate clauses.
