Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Jinu,
I am very happy to hear that you are planning your first summer camping trip. , I know you have a lot of confusion about how to plan and get a good camping experience. No need to worry about the plan; I am very happy to help you to make an itinerary and I am also thinking about a camping trip, so I hope we can do this trip together. I am sure that you will enjoy this trip very well and it helps you to reduce your work pressure and stress as well. Mohawk park in brantford is the fistplace that comes to my mind as my priority, before confirming the place if you have any suggestion, you can share it with me, and it would be appreciated. Along with that i would like to share some possible disadvantages about the place that i mentioned. At night, there will be some mosquitoes, but we can avoid those situations by having some good camping gears. Please let me know if you have any other places on your lists or we can proceed this plan.
regards
nishad

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing disadvantages, and expressing interest in joining. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that camping helps reduce 'work pressure and stress,' this could be expanded with more descriptive detail about the nature of the experience. Similarly, the disadvantages are limited to mosquitoes. To reach a higher band, you should provide more depth to your explanations and ensure the tone remains consistently appropriate for a letter to a friend. The response is relevant, but the ideas are not fully extended.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent, and the progression of ideas is logical. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Along with that' and 'before confirming the place.' However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the letter is contained within a single paragraph, which makes the text feel dense. Using clear paragraph breaks for each bullet point would significantly improve the structure and readability. Additionally, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'I am' at the start of sentences. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary like 'itinerary,' 'camping gears,' and 'work pressure.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'fistplace' (spelling error) and 'enjoy this trip very well' (unnatural collocation). To improve, you should aim for more precise and varied vocabulary. For example, instead of 'good camping gears,' you could use 'appropriate camping equipment.' The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as punctuation issues (e.g., the comma after the opening greeting and the stray comma at the start of the second sentence) and capitalization errors (e.g., 'nishad', 'brantford'). There are also minor errors in verb tense and article usage, such as 'the fistplace that comes to my mind.' While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic punctuation and capitalization will help improve your accuracy.
