Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Avtar,
As you are planning to go on a camping holiday this summer, and you are looking for an advice from me, I would suggest that you to go on camping without anything else. You will really enjoy it as you like to visit destinations which are rich in nature. Camping near the beach will be a good option for you.
There are some kind of disadvantages in camping like dangers includes animals and no internet connection. Moreover, you have to bring your own food with you. Nowadays, the weather is also not trustable. You have to take care of things properly as it is your first time camping experience.
I would like to join you, but my final exams are really close, so I have to prepare for them. I will definitely join you next time, after my exams are complete. We will go on best place for camping in our city.
Yours faithfully,
Kuwerinder Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You explain why your friend would enjoy camping, mention potential disadvantages, and clearly state that you cannot join them this time. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the disadvantages are listed briefly without much elaboration. To improve, try to expand on your points—for example, explain why the lack of internet might be a benefit or a challenge, or provide more specific details about the 'dangers' you mentioned. This would help move your response from a basic coverage of the task to a more fully developed one.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on one of the required points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'As you are planning,' which help the flow of the letter. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'I would suggest that you to go on camping without anything else,' which is unclear. The overall progression of ideas is easy to follow, but the use of linking words could be more varied and natural to achieve a higher band score. Ensure that each sentence connects smoothly to the next to improve the overall readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'destinations,' 'rich in nature,' and 'trustable.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'not trustable' is not the standard way to describe weather; 'unpredictable' would be much more natural. Additionally, 'go on camping without anything else' is unclear and does not convey a standard meaning. To improve, focus on learning common collocations (words that naturally go together) and try to use more precise adjectives to describe your experiences. Your vocabulary is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'looking for an advice' (advice is uncountable), 'suggest that you to go' (incorrect verb pattern), and 'dangers includes animals' (subject-verb agreement error). These errors do not prevent communication, but they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Practicing complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, will also help you demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
