Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Jack,
How've you been? I'm writing to give some advice that you've been asking for a camping during summer.
This is a great idea to unwind and taking a short break from daily routine can help to reduce stress level. The location, that you mentioned is nestled among mountains covered with green lush trees. Therefore, the calming environment would not only offer great fun but also be beneficial for mental well-being.
However, you should keep some problems in mind that might come along while camping including uncertain whether conditions, food services, and insecure surroundings. These hurdles are avoidable by doing planning beforehand such as whether, routes and circumstances can be checked before starting journey.
I'm really love to joining as it would bring a chance to spend time together. unfortunately, I've lots to do to fulfil the commitments that I already made.
Hope my suggestions would help you. Good luck!
Best wishes,
Amanjot.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You explain the benefits of camping, identify potential disadvantages, and clarify your availability. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, the disadvantages are listed as 'uncertain weather conditions, food services, and insecure surroundings' without further elaboration or personal advice. To reach a higher band, you should expand on these points with more descriptive language or personal anecdotes to fully develop the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition from the benefits of camping to the disadvantages is abrupt. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'The location, that you mentioned', where the relative clause is punctuated incorrectly, slightly disrupting the flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'unwind', 'nestled', and 'well-being'. There are some word choice errors, such as 'I'm really love to joining' (should be 'I would love to join') and 'fulfil the commitments that I already made' (slightly awkward phrasing). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on some common phrases, and there are minor inaccuracies in collocation that slightly limit the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I'm writing to give some advice that you've been asking for a camping' (incorrect preposition/article usage), 'taking a short break... can help to reduce stress level' (missing article), and 'whether conditions' (incorrect word choice for 'weather'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to indicate a lack of full control over complex structures.
