Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Jashan, Yesterday, I received your letter in which you mentioned that you are planning to go on a camping trip this summer. I have a great plan to make your trip perfect and the most memorable event of your life. I would suggest you visit Banff because it is extremely close to Calgary, which is your hometown. This vacation will allow you to experience new, exciting activities such as a long drive, tracking, and enjoying the beauty of large mountains and blue lakes. In addition, Banff is considered a heaven in Canada, and in my opinion, everyone should visit this place once in their life. Besides various benefits, for example, getting a break from a hectic schedule, spending some quality time with yourself, and rejuvenating your body as well as mind, some drawbacks are associated with this vacation. Sometimes, a huge amount of money can be spent, and there are many other expenses, like hotel bookings, eating in expensive restaurants, and so on. On this holiday, I would love to come with you, as I want to explore these places with you together. I feel that it is really a pleasant way to make more memories with you. I will book my flight tickets after you decide on the final date for this exciting plan. Sincerely, Komal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why your friend would enjoy camping, described potential disadvantages, and confirmed your interest in joining. However, the content regarding the disadvantages is slightly contradictory; you mention 'camping' but then discuss 'hotel bookings' and 'expensive restaurants,' which are not typical of a camping holiday. This suggests a slight misunderstanding of the nature of camping. To improve, ensure your ideas are more relevant to the specific activity requested. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraph breaks for each bullet point. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition,' 'Besides,' and 'On this holiday' to connect your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. For instance, the transition from the benefits of camping to the drawbacks could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the letter follows a standard, easy-to-follow structure that guides the reader through your points effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'hectic schedule,' 'rejuvenating your body,' and 'memorable event.' There are some minor issues with word choice, such as using 'tracking' when you likely meant 'trekking' or 'hiking.' Additionally, describing Banff as a 'heaven' is slightly unnatural; 'a paradise' or 'a stunning destination' would be more idiomatic. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I received your letter in which you mentioned...' and 'I will book my flight tickets after you decide...'. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your grammar does not impede communication. There are a few minor slips, such as 'explore these places with you together,' where 'together' is redundant. Punctuation is generally accurate, and your control over verb tenses is consistent. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with greater precision.
