Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Hetvi,

I am writing you this letter because recently I get new that you are thinking of going on a camping holiday for the first time in this summer which is held in Udaipur city.If you go on a camping holiday,it will be great for you even you will enjoy a lot in summer camp.As I know that there are plenty of facilities available for children. For instance, food, accomodation and many more so you will not face any problems.Apart from this, children often help each other even you will enjoy dance, music at night and learn art and craft, adventure activities too.

I can not ignore the fact that sometime children face many problems in summer camp. For example, they can get injuries during adventure activities. That's why they feel unhappy and can not enjoy anymore.Sometime they suffer from loneliness because they have do their work by themselves.

I really want to go with you because summer vacation is only time when I can get free time.As you know that we both have hectic schedule during our school days.If I will go with you,it will be great for us even we both can enjoy together after very long time.

I hope we both will enjoy in summer camp and mma

Yours lovingly,

Tina shah.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing potential disadvantages, and confirming your interest in joining. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the content is somewhat repetitive, particularly in your focus on 'children' and 'summer camps,' which makes the letter feel more like a description of a youth camp than a general camping holiday for a friend. To improve, ensure your ideas are more tailored to the specific context of a camping trip (e.g., tents, nature, cooking outdoors) rather than structured activities like 'art and craft'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific bullet point. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'For instance,' 'Apart from this,' and 'That's why' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions. For example, the connection between sentences in the first paragraph is sometimes abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your referencing (e.g., 'it,' 'they') is always clear and unambiguous.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'hectic schedule' and 'adventure activities.' However, there are instances of word-choice errors and unnatural collocations, such as 'I get new' instead of 'I received news' and 'do their work by themselves' instead of 'fend for themselves.' The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying on basic structures. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and using more precise verbs would significantly enhance your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include tense inconsistencies (e.g., 'I get new' instead of 'I received news'), missing articles, and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and periods. Additionally, there are errors in conditional structures, such as 'If I will go with you,' which should be 'If I go with you.' While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the letter.
