Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Nadia,
So good to hear from you and thank you for writing to me to take my suggestions for your holidays.
I've gone on a solo camping holiday several times, I can say this with absolute certainty that you'll enjoy every bit of this adventure. I know how work has been stressful for you lately and you need break from the busy city life. This holiday will provide you an opportunity to relax and enjoy nature. It is going to be so exciting to experience trekking, watching sunrise and star gazing for the first time. Experiences like
I also enjoyed trekking during dawn, watching sunrise but I would warn you that you might find it a little challenging because of the lack of physical activity in your everyday routine. Another thing to consider is the unpredictability of the weather. You would have to plan your activities around the weather and unfortunately the weather predictions always aren't very accurate. You might even experience a sudden down pour when you are sleeping! So you need to plan a bit more extensively for this holiday.
I would've loved joining you on this holiday but unfortunately I've already booked my flight tickets to visit my Grandmother abroad and I can not cancel those. My Grandmother would be really upset if I don't fulfill my promise of spending the summer together.
I wish you a safe and enjoyable trip.
Best wishes,
Amanda Hill

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly explain why your friend would enjoy camping, provide relevant disadvantages such as physical challenges and weather unpredictability, and state your inability to join the trip. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the ideas are well-developed. There is a minor incomplete sentence fragment in the first paragraph ('Experiences like'), which slightly impacts the flow, but the overall task requirements are fully met with a clear and consistent position throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which makes the structure easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'I also enjoyed', 'Another thing to consider', and 'unfortunately' to link your points effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the letter. The flow is generally smooth, although the sentence fragment mentioned earlier creates a slight disruption in the first paragraph. Overall, the organization is clear and coherent.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a semi-formal or informal letter. Phrases like 'absolute certainty', 'unpredictability of the weather', and 'extensively' show a solid command of language. There are no significant errors in word choice that impede communication. While the vocabulary is sufficient and natural, incorporating a few more idiomatic expressions or less common collocations could elevate the score further. The spelling is accurate throughout, and the tone is consistently maintained.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Examples include conditional structures ('I would've loved joining you...') and relative clauses. While there are a few minor slips, such as the word order in 'the weather predictions always aren't very accurate' (should be 'aren't always') and the incomplete sentence fragment in the first paragraph, these do not impede meaning. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and verb tenses is generally strong, showing a good level of grammatical flexibility.
