Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Harsh,

How’s everything, I hope you are doing good. I just received your mail about you are planning summer camping and you need my help to plan it as it will be your first time. As I know our friendship and the bond we share with each other, I definitely believe that you will have a great fun doing camping. As you like too explore new place and new areas you would definitely enjoy doing this activity.

As I would also like to mention you that camping in summer bring’s you different challenges as well, As specialy during the hot weather it attracts looks of mosquitoes to your tent. Also i would recommend you to stay hydrated in the forest which is most important. The forest will be danced, So you can easly get lost in it. So make sure to mark the place through your trail, I would definitely enjoy and like to join you in the summer camping if I get a couple of day’s off from my work. I will keep you updated and if you me more recommendations don’t hesitate to reach me back.

Warmly,

Vrajesh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, describing potential disadvantages, and confirming your interest in joining. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention mosquitoes and getting lost, these points could be expanded with more specific advice or personal anecdotes to better meet the 'fully developed' criteria. The response is relevant and maintains a clear, friendly position throughout, which satisfies the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices like 'As I would also like to mention' and 'Also', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. There are instances where the flow is slightly interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the introduction and the body paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from a more sophisticated use of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'hydrated', 'challenges', and 'recommendations'. However, there are several word choice errors and spelling mistakes that slightly hinder the natural flow, such as 'danced' (likely meaning 'dense') and 'looks of mosquitoes' (likely meaning 'lots of'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring accurate word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'bring’s' (incorrect apostrophe), 'As specialy' (spelling and capitalization), and 'if you me more' (missing verb). These errors are noticeable but rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of apostrophes, as well as refining your control over complex sentence construction.
