Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Disha,

Hope you're doing well! Its been way too long since we last caught up. I got your letter where you mentioned about your camping holiday you decided to go this summer.

I definitely believe that it's going to be one of the most memorable experience you ever had as you are a nature lover. Natural sightseeing during camping will not only offer you the breathtaking views of the nature's beauty but also provide the rich exposure of serene environment.

However, there are a few precautions that has to be kept in mind for camping is that you should take all safety measures and emergency devices like torch, first-aid kit with you, as sometimes wildlife can be furious and dangerous too.

I wish, I could have joined you in this camping. Having said that, unfortunately, I won't be able to do that for my business commitments.

Also, I am excited to hear about your experience of this first trip which you were waiting since ages. I hope to hearing from you soon.

Warm Regards,

Mamta

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You begin by explaining why Disha would enjoy camping, noting that her love for nature makes it a memorable experience offering breathtaking views. Next, you describe the possible disadvantages, specifically highlighting the need for safety measures and precautions due to potentially dangerous wildlife. Finally, you clearly state whether you would like to join her this summer, declining due to business commitments. The tone is appropriately friendly and conversational for a letter to a friend. Your ideas are adequately developed throughout the response, fulfilling all aspects of Task Achievement at a Band 6.5 to Band 7 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement and follows a logical progression from greeting to the main points and a warm sign-off. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate your opening, the reasons for enjoying camping, disadvantages, your inability to join, and your closing wishes. Cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'Having said that' are employed to link ideas effectively. However, referencing is occasionally slightly awkward, such as 'which you were waiting since ages', and some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Overall, the organization is coherent and easy to follow, supporting a Band 6.5 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a general letter, successfully attempting less common items such as 'breathtaking views', 'serene environment', and 'emergency devices'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'Natural sightseeing' instead of 'Scenery' or 'Sightseeing in nature', and 'exposure of serene environment'. Additionally, phrases like 'wildlife can be furious' are slightly unnatural in this context ('aggressive' or 'unpredictable' would be more precise). These lexical slips do not impede communication, placing your vocabulary use firmly in the Band 6 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms quite effectively, such as conditional and relative clauses ('I definitely believe that it's going to be...'). There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text. For instance, 'Its been way too long' requires an apostrophe ('It's'), 'memorable experience' should be plural or have an article ('a memorable experience'), and 'precautions that has to be kept' has a subject-verb agreement error ('have to be kept'). Furthermore, 'which you were waiting since ages' is missing a preposition ('waiting for since ages'). Despite these errors, meaning is generally clear and communication is not impeded, corresponding to a Band 6.0.
