Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt, though the development is quite basic. The writer explains why the friend might enjoy camping by mentioning peace, looking at stars, and fresh air ('enjoy some stuff ,like having a peace in the outside looking at the stars at night'). Disadvantages are also briefly described, such as the risk of wild animals and unpredictable weather. Finally, the writer states an intention to go camping with the friend this summer ('i think i will to go camping with my friends this summer'). However, the ideas are somewhat limited and lack depth, aligning best with a Band 5 or Band 6 descriptor. Because all parts of the task are addressed and the bullet points are clearly visible, a score of 5.5 is appropriate, reflecting a response that touches upon all requirements but remains underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter lacks proper paragraphing and is written as one large block of text divided into three run-on sentences, severely impacting structural coherence. Cohesive devices are basic and repetitive, heavily relying on the word 'and' or 'becouse' to string clauses together (e.g., 'and that is becouse you enjoy some stuff ,like... and becouse ther is good air, and becouse its your first time...'). Logical progression is weak, and referencing is sometimes unclear or awkward, such as transitioning abruptly with 'Meanwhile there a possible things you will not feel ok about it'. This places the response firmly in the Band 5 category for Coherence and Cohesion, as the organisation is limited, cohesive devices are poorly managed, and there is no clear paragraph structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, reflecting a limited range. The student relies on elementary words like 'good', 'stuff', 'nice', and 'fun'. There are also numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'esspichslly' instead of especially, 'holidat' instead of holiday, 'frome' instead of from, 'samthing' instead of something, 'becouse' instead of because, 'nater' instead of nature, 'creator' instead of creature, 'toghether' instead of together, and 'hurts' instead of hurt. While communication is not entirely impeded and the general meaning remains clear, the high frequency of lexical and spelling errors combined with the lack of less common vocabulary points to a Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
Grammatical control is weak, with a heavy reliance on simple sentence structures and poorly connected clause chains. The text contains frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles, incorrect prepositions, subject-verb agreement issues, and tense confusion (e.g., 'going out frome house is samthing almost every body feels good about it', 'all first things is good', 'there a possible things you will not feel ok about it', and 'i think i will to go camping'). Punctuation is also poorly handled, with comma splices replacing full stops and spaces placed incorrectly before punctuation marks. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a Band 6, supporting a Band 5 score where a limited range of structures is used and frequent errors persist.
