Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully covered all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You explained why Brian would enjoy a camping holiday by mentioning the pleasant summer weather, beautiful scenery, and the relaxing atmosphere around a campfire. You also described possible disadvantages, such as dealing with mosquitoes and insects, as well as the lack of mobile network coverage in remote areas. Finally, you addressed whether you would join him, stating that you would love to go but are unfortunately unable to do so due to another commitment. Your tone is suitably friendly and natural for a general letter to a friend. The bullet points are all adequately developed and presented in a clear, logical sequence, fulfilling the requirements for a Band 7 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter has a clear, logical overall organization and progression throughout. You made good use of transition markers and cohesive devices to structure your ideas, such as 'First of all', 'Secondly', 'Last but not least', and 'However'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each main point and bullet point separated into its own logical paragraph. However, there are minor issues with referencing and linking at times, such as the sudden shift when discussing mosquitoes without an introductory connective. Overall, the flow is smooth and the letter is easy to follow, aligning well with the characteristics of a Band 7 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrated a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow flexibility and precision, using terms like 'pleasant', 'scenery', 'peaceful environment', and 'remote area'. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'advanturous' (though misspelled) and 'experiance'. However, there are a few word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'planning for camping trip', 'oother comittment', and 'keep your self safe'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands. Overall, your vocabulary is adequate and fits the informal letter format well, supporting a Band 6.0 rating.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You used a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional ideas and relative clauses such as 'food made on coal will enhance the experiance of camping, which will be really amazing' and 'challenges you may have to face during your trip'. There are several grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including lowercase letters at the start of sentences ('it is great', 'however, there'), missing articles ('for camping trip', 'in remote area'), and spelling mistakes ('advanturous', 'experiance', 'comittment'). Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and many sentences remain error-free. This performance sits comfortably in the Band 6 category.
