Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Jass

I hope you're doing well.

I'm writing this letter tell you about going on a camping holiday. so, here's the thing camping is the most excited thing to do in our life. Whilst doing camping, you can get more closer to nature. Moreover, you'll feel relaxed and can get to spend some time with your friends.

On the other side, during the camping just be careful with the animals as well as check the weather before going over the location. As you know last summer, when I went there there was a thunderstorm. Just be cautious of that.

Well one more thing, I had asked for holidays and I'll be joining you for this trip. Maybe next week we could meet at cafe and do all preparations. I'm very excited to meetr you and can't wait to go on a vacation with you.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: it explains why the friend would enjoy camping, describes disadvantages such as dangerous animals and bad weather, and confirms that the writer will join the trip. However, there is a penalty to consider because the length requirement of 150 words was not met, as the response contains 146 words. Despite being slightly under-length, the ideas are sufficiently clear and relevant, though they lack deeper development due to the brief nature of the letter. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout, fulfilling the communicative purpose of a general training task. Overall, it addresses the prompt adequately but is limited by the word count and slight under-development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, informal greeting and sign-off, beginning with "Dear Jass" and ending with "Muskan." Ideas are logically sequenced, moving from the benefits of camping to the disadvantages, and finally to the arrangement to join the trip. Paragraphing is used, though it is slightly irregular with very short blocks of text. Cohesive devices are employed, such as "Moreover," "On the other side," and "Well one more thing," but some transitions feel a bit mechanical or basic. Referencing is generally clear, allowing the reader to follow the writer's thoughts easily without confusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, though somewhat simple and limited. The writer attempts some less common expressions, such as "excited thing" (which is grammatically inaccurate) and "thunderstorm," but there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors. For instance, the phrase "get more closer" contains a double comparative, and "tell you" is missing a preposition in "writing this letter tell you." Spelling is generally fine, with a minor typo in "meetr." While the lexical range is sufficient to communicate the main points, the errors in word choice and form prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and subordinate clauses like "As you know last summer, when I went there there was a thunderstorm." However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, including missing prepositions ("writing this letter tell you" instead of "to tell you"), redundant phrasing ("more closer"), and punctuation/structural awkwardness. Despite these frequent minor errors and awkward phrasings, communication is not impeded, and the reader can easily understand the intended meaning. The control over grammar is typical of a solid band 6 level.
