Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear krina ,
I am writing this letter to my friend giving advice for camping holiday.
In summer , camp oraganized by uva travel . camping for 10 days lah ladak. I thought i want to go for camping . what are prepration for camping . I thought you enjoy this trip . you can go this trip enjoy
In lah ladak in wather is cool . some items be with you like medicine, hot coat, water , bettrery. I wish to go there. camping is life change experince . once upon time you experince this trip.
i wish to go camping with my friend . enjoy alot with my friend. You can also go to a nearby lake for fishing or swimming which you have always wanted to do. But, the best thing about this camping holiday will be that it'll actually improve your mood and rejuvenate you like nothing else.
Having said that, there are some disadvantages of such camping holiday as well, such as sharing bathrooms with other people at the campsite, bad weather, and dealing with bug bites and dangerous animals.
Anyway, I also would have loved to go camping with you this summer, but since my cousin is visiting me from abroad this summer, I'll have to give up on that idea.
Take care and stay fine.
Warm wishes,
Riya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. Riya explains why her friend would enjoy camping, mentioning fishing, swimming, and mood improvement. She also describes potential disadvantages, such as sharing bathrooms, bad weather, and bug bites. Finally, she addresses whether she would like to go camping together, explaining why she cannot attend this summer due to a visiting cousin. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear despite some disjointed earlier paragraphs. The response successfully fulfills the task requirements, earning a solid Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter has an overall coherent structure with a clear beginning and ending, and the bullet points are generally addressed in logical sequence. However, paragraphing and logical progression in the first half are weak, featuring fragmented sentences like 'In summer , camp oraganized by uva travel .' Cohesive devices are used in later paragraphs, such as 'Having said that' and 'Anyway', which help guide the reader. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the opening sections where the connection between ideas is abrupt. Overall, the organizational flaws place this in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Riya demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'rejuvenate you like nothing else' and 'life change experince' (experience). There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'krina' instead of a capitalised name, 'oraganized', 'wather', 'bettrery', and 'experince'. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the intended meaning, allowing communication to succeed. These limitations align closely with the Band 5.5 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with successful complex structures appearing later in the text, such as 'You can also go to a nearby lake for fishing or swimming which you have always wanted to do.' However, the grammatical control is inconsistent, with frequent errors in the first half, such as missing articles ('in wather is cool'), incorrect verb forms ('I thought i want to go'), and punctuation errors. While the errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, communication is not severely impeded. This performance corresponds to a Band 5.0.
