Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the task. The writer explains why the friend would enjoy camping, such as getting 'the chance to experence something new and different', describes potential disadvantages like extreme temperatures, dehydration, and sunburn, and clearly states that they will not be able to join this summer due to being quite busy. Although the tone is informal and friendly, the ideas are sufficiently developed for a General Training Task 1 letter. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the target reader is appropriately addressed. Therefore, it satisfies the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure with distinct paragraphs for each bullet point and an appropriate greeting and sign-off. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The writer relies heavily on basic coordinating conjunctions and transitional phrases like 'apart from that' and 'So, overall'. Furthermore, referencing and punctuation are weak; the text lacks proper sentence boundaries, running multiple clauses together with commas rather than periods, such as in the second paragraph ('In my persepective you should defentily enjoy camping holiday because u got the chance...'). Paragraphing is present, but overall progression is affected by run-on sentences, placing it at a Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'over the moon', 'daily routine', and 'dehydrated during day time'. However, there are numerous spelling errors throughout the response, including 'heared', 'r' (for are), 'hdehyoliday', 'persepective', 'defentily', 'experence', 'issus', 'tempreture', 'alergies', 'quit', 'wheather', 'qoestions', and 'douts'. While the intended meaning remains mostly clear despite these slips, the high frequency of basic spelling and word choice inaccuracies prevents the score from reaching a higher band. It fits comfortably within the Band 5.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing subordinate clauses with 'because', 'that', and 'if'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak due to frequent errors, particularly run-on sentences joined by commas instead of full stops, missing articles, and incorrect prepositions. For instance, sentences like 'Here also has some issus that you feel dehydrated...' demonstrate poor control over basic clause structures. Punctuation is also problematic, including missing terminal punctuation and an incorrect apostrophe at the end ('With Love''). These persistent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, aligning the grammar with a Band 5.0.
