Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Anisha,

I found out from your best friend Arpita that you are going on a camping holiday this summer. I am immensely excited for your holiday, considering it will be your first camping experience. In my opinion, you will have best time this summer because camping experience will harness your physical strengths and will make you best version of yourself. I can imagine you enjoying the summer by hiking your way through beautiful coasts, witnessing mesmerizing sunsets and finding yourself at peace. However, the journey could be tiring and exhaustive if your are not fully equipped and well rested. One of the challenges you would face is no reception and zero data connectivity in the area you are visiting. You will be entirely detached from digital world and communication would be nearly impossible.

Without any doubt, this camping experience will be filled with joy and adventures. I have family event early summer; however, I will be having sometime to myself after the event and I am thinking of joining you on this holiday for last 3 days.

Best regards,

Hinal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response fully satisfies all requirements of General Training Task 1. You successfully explained why your friend would enjoy a camping holiday, such as 'hiking your way through beautiful coasts' and 'witnessing mesmerizing sunsets'. You also described the possible disadvantages clearly, including that 'the journey could be tiring and exhaustive' and the lack of digital connectivity. Finally, you addressed whether you would join your friend by stating your intention of 'joining you on this holiday for last 3 days'. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout, and all bullet points are well-developed and fully covered.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organised with a clear overarching progression from opening remarks and reasons to enjoy camping, to disadvantages, and finally the concluding offer to join. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate the main topics. Cohesive devices are managed well, using transition words like 'However' and 'Without any doubt' effectively to guide the reader through your thoughts. Referencing is clear throughout, and the letter flows naturally from start to finish.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a wide and flexible range of vocabulary suited to an informal letter. You use effective less-common items and collocations, such as 'immensely excited', 'harness your physical strengths', 'mesmerizing sunsets', and 'digital connectivity'. There are only minor lexical slips, such as missing an article in 'you will have best time' and 'if your are' (a typo). However, these occasional inaccuracies do not impede communication, and the overall phrasing is natural and expressive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

A good mix of simple and complex sentence forms is used effectively throughout the letter, such as conditional structures and relative clauses. The majority of sentences are error-free, and you demonstrate good control of punctuation. There are a few minor grammatical errors, such as 'if your are not fully equipped' (typo for 'you are') and missing articles ('have best time', 'detached from digital world'). Despite these minor slips, your grammatical control is strong and communication is never impeded.
