Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Karan,
I hope you doing well and i am writing this letter to you about my suggestion which you did ask me. As per my opinion you should go to camping vacation because when you will go for camping first time you will get a new experience of your life and you can explore the new things in this camping.
Athough it would be difficult for you because when you go for camping first time in wild or hilly area you might face challanges to find a right path for your destination and sometime due to the rain its difficult to walk on muddy paths. So make sure keep a rain court in your backpack and also good navigation device for findig a right way.
I also would like to go on camping with you in this season but due to my busy work schedule i can not go with you in this summer time. i will try in next summer.
See you soon
Your lovingly
Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. You successfully explained why your friend Karan would enjoy a camping holiday by mentioning the chance to get a new life experience and explore new things. You also described potential disadvantages, such as difficulty finding the right path in wild or hilly areas and dealing with muddy paths during rain, while sensibly offering practical advice like packing a raincoat and a navigation device. Finally, you addressed the third bullet point by stating that you cannot go camping with him this summer due to a busy work schedule, but hope to join next year. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. The purpose of the letter is clearly communicated throughout, leading to a solid Band 6.0 performance for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical letter-writing structure, starting with an appropriate greeting and ending with a sign-off. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as the introduction and reasons for enjoying camping in the first paragraph, the disadvantages and advice in the second, and your availability in the third. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, particularly with transitions like 'Athough' and 'So'. Referencing is generally clear, but the lack of more sophisticated cohesive devices and slightly basic transitions keeps this criterion at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday ideas. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary items and phrases, such as 'busy work schedule' and 'navigation device'. However, there are noticeable word choice errors and typos, such as writing 'Athough' instead of 'Although', 'challanges' instead of 'challenges', 'findig' instead of 'finding', and 'rain court' instead of 'raincoat'. Furthermore, phrases like 'go to camping vacation' are unnatural. These lexical limitations and spelling inaccuracies prevent the score from exceeding Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as the conditional-style structure 'when you will go for camping first time you will get a new experience'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing auxiliary verbs ('I hope you doing well'), tense issues ('when you will go' instead of 'when you go'), missing articles ('in wild or hilly area'), and incorrect preposition usage ('go to camping vacation'). Punctuation and capitalization are also somewhat weak in places, such as lowercase 'i'. Because these errors occur regularly though they do not impede overall communication, this meets the criteria for Band 5.5.
