Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Aman,
I hope you are doing well. I received your letter in which you told me that you are planing to go on a camping holiday for the very first time. This is a wonderful plan. I think, you should go for it undoubtedly.
In our university time together, I remember we used to do a fake camping in our campus's sports area. You will definately enjoy going there this summer. However, I would like to warn you about some things before you finalize all the details. During camping, there will be a slight chance of some type of animal to join you at your place. So, make sure to bring all light related stuff with you which can cover at least 100 meter area.
Another possible disadvantage is that you might lost your internet connection, so add a wifi and power battery in your To-do list. I would be more than happy to give you a company in your camping holiday. Let me know, once the date and time are finalized.
I will wait for your response. Let me know what you decided.
With love,
Gurpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all three parts of the prompt in a natural, friendly letter format. The writer explains why Aman would enjoy camping by recalling a past experience in their university campus sports area, describes possible disadvantages such as wildlife encounters and a lack of internet connectivity, and clearly states their willingness to join Aman this summer ("I would be more than happy to give you a company in your camping holiday"). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are adequately supported and extended, fulfilling the requirements for a Band 7 level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter exhibits clear logical organisation and progression. Paragraphs are used appropriately to separate different parts of the message, starting with a friendly greeting and introduction, moving into the reasons and disadvantages, and concluding with an invitation and sign-off. Cohesive devices such as "However", "Another possible disadvantage is that", and "So" are used effectively to link ideas. Although referencing is generally clear, the phrase "going there this summer" slightly lacks a concrete anchor since the previous sentence mentioned a campus sports area rather than a specific campsite, but overall coherence remains strong and the text flows well, matching Band 7 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a general social letter, using phrases like "finalize all the details", "internet connection", and "To-do list". There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but also noticeable word-choice inaccuracies and unnatural collocations, such as "do a fake camping", "light related stuff", "lost your internet connection" (instead of lose), and "give you a company" (instead of keep you company). However, these lexical slips do not impede communication. Spelling and word formation are generally accurate, placing the writing comfortably at a Band 6 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over standard structures (e.g., "I received your letter in which you told me that you are planing to go..."). There are some grammatical errors and spelling mistakes, such as "planing" (instead of planning), "definately" (definitely), and "might lost" (might lose). Punctuation is generally sound, and the errors do not impede communication. Because the writer combines error-free simple sentences with occasional slips in more complex structures, this performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
