Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear John,

How are you doing my friend? I am overwhelmed to know that you are planing a camping holiday this summers. It sounds like a fantastic plan, I am very sure you are going to love it.

One of major reason why I believe you will love being surrounded by nature is you will experience how is the feel to be disconnected with daily life hustle and live in solitude. Moreover, the break will allow you to think in peace about your future plans. Since you are a person who loves to explore new places all the time, I am very sure this trip will create a lasting impact as you, as you will wake up with birds chirping, and you will also experice sleeping under the blanket of stars gazing them all the night.

There are few downside which should be taken into consideration before planning a camping, there will not be comfortable bedding and you need to be prepped up for sleeping in camp bedding, amenities like stove or bathrooms are not available in nature, and you will be needing to cook meals on a bonfire and need to litter in public space. Furthermore be prepared for weather changes which can be all of sudden.

I can accompany you if you allow it will be a good trip as we both will be togather, i will help with setting up the tent and cooking meals.

I hope you will consider my suggestions, hope to hear from you super soon.

Best Regards,

Kushagra shinde

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The writer covers all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. First, the reasons why the friend would enjoy camping are explained well, focusing on nature, solitude, and disconnecting from daily life. Second, potential disadvantages such as a lack of comfortable bedding, absence of standard amenities, and sudden weather changes are described. Finally, the writer clearly states their desire to go camping with the friend and offers assistance. The tone is appropriately friendly and conversational for a General Training letter. The ideas are relevant and well-developed throughout, meeting all requirements of the task seamlessly. Therefore, this warrants a solid band score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter is logically organised into clear paragraphs, starting with a friendly opening, followed by body paragraphs addressing the advantages and disadvantages, and concluding with a suggestion to join the trip and a sign-off. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Since', though some connections feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in phrasing like 'I am very sure'. Paragraphing is handled appropriately, ensuring an overall coherent arrangement that guides the reader smoothly from one point to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information flexibly, using terms such as 'overwhelmed', 'solitude', 'disconnection', and 'lasting impact'. However, there are some minor word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'planing' instead of 'planning', 'summers' instead of 'summer', 'experience how is the feel' instead of 'experience what it feels like', and an accidental suggestion to 'need to litter in public space' where the writer likely meant 'not litter' or experienced a slip in phrasing. Despite these occasional errors, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and communication is not impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including dependent clauses with 'Since' and conditional ideas. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips, notably run-on sentences (comma splices) such as 'It sounds like a fantastic plan, I am very sure you are going to love it' and '...impact as you, as you will wake up...'. Other minor issues include verb form errors like 'you will be needing to cook' instead of 'you will need to cook' and fragment phrasing. While errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher band, they rarely impede overall understanding.
