Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Gurwinder successfully covers all three parts of the task prompt. First, you explain why your friend would enjoy a camping holiday by recommending the northern part of Canada for its night views, northern lights, and riverside bonfires. Second, you describe potential disadvantages, noting concerns about wild animals and sleeping difficulties due to fire protection and temperature control. Third, you clearly state your desire to join your friend's camping trip this summer, offering your extensive camping experience. All bullet points are fully addressed, and a natural, friendly tone appropriate for a letter to a friend is maintained throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, resulting in a solid performance for Task Achievement, closely aligning with the Band 7 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter demonstrates a clear overall structure, starting with an appropriate greeting and ending with a customary sign-off. However, the internal organisation is somewhat compromised by punctuation issues, particularly run-on sentences and a lack of proper full stops. For instance, sentences like 'i will suggest you go to northan side of canada , night view of camping area on that part of canada is mindblowing , if you will lucky you can see northan lights' run together with commas instead of being broken into distinct sentences. Paragraphing is attempted to separate the different bullet points, but the lack of accurate sentence boundaries and limited use of cohesive devices mean the progression is occasionally mechanical and repetitive in style, placing this in the Band 5 to 6 range.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'mindblowing', 'bonefire', and 'adventures journey'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'wonderfull', 'northan', 'protaction', 'temprature', 'belive', 'benificial', 'excelent', and 'responce'. Furthermore, word choices occasionally lack precision, such as writing 'do camping' instead of 'go camping'. While these lexical errors and spelling mistakes do not completely impede communication because the context remains clear, they are frequent enough to restrict your score in this category to a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammar is characterised by a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but it is heavily hindered by punctuation errors, particularly comma splices and run-on sentences. For example, the sentence 'if am telling you truth camping also have some drawback , For instance, your camp always have to covered around with fire protaction...' strings multiple clauses together incorrectly. There are also subject-verb agreement and article issues, such as 'your camp always have to covered' (should be 'have to be covered') and missing capitalisation for the pronoun 'I' and proper nouns like 'Canada'. Because errors in punctuation and basic structures occur frequently and require some effort from the reader to parse, this performance fits the Band 5 descriptors.
