Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Ram,

Hope you're doing splendily! its been ages since you went for a vacation. However, you have a wonderful opportunity at this time as cost of your trip will be covered by the company. Consequently, you should not miss this chance.

I know due to workload your mind is stressful. Therefore, to rejuvenate yourself you should visit this holiday tour. Although it would be a fun, be careful about risks associated with this. Especially, while doing adventure activities as you don't have any health insurance. Moreover, there are tons of thieves roam around there who commit thefts such as pocket snicthing and hitting.

Finally, as this trip is sponsored by your organisation so I don't think they will allow me to go with you. I will go next time. I hope you will gonna miss me. One last thing, don't forget to pack your homemade food because you will not like the outside meals.

Your friend

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The student has successfully addressed all three bullet points required in the task prompt. First, the letter explains why the friend would enjoy camping, mentioning that it is a great way to rejuvenate from stressful workloads, especially since the trip is covered by the company. Second, it describes disadvantages, such as the risks associated with adventure activities without health insurance and the presence of thieves committing 'pocket snicthing'. Third, it clearly states whether the writer would like to go camping this summer, explaining that the company sponsorship prevents this. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout, meeting the general training letter requirements well. Ideas are adequately extended and supported, fulfilling the Band 7 requirements for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter maintains a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The response is appropriately paragraphed, starting with a friendly opening and moving smoothly through the required bullet points to a natural sign-off. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Consequently', 'Therefore', 'Although', and 'Moreover', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. Referencing is generally clear, though minor abrupt shifts occur between sentences. Overall, the structure provides a coherent flow that makes the letter easy to read and understand, aligning well with the Band 6.5 or Band 7 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common phrasing such as 'rejuvenate yourself', 'sponsored by your organisation', and 'adventure activities'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'splendily' instead of splendidly, 'snicthing' instead of snatching, and 'roam around there who commit thefts'. Additionally, phrases like 'visit this holiday tour' are awkward collocations. While these lexical errors do not impede communication, they reflect the characteristics of Band 6, where the vocabulary is adequate but contains noticeable inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with 'although', 'because', and relative pronouns. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, such as missing capitalization ('its been ages'), punctuation slips, and awkward sentence constructions like 'there are tons of thieves roam around there'. The sentence 'I hope you will gonna miss me' contains a tense/modal error ('will gonna'). These errors occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score, but because they rarely impede overall understanding, the performance fits comfortably into the Band 6 category.
