Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. You explain why your friend might enjoy camping by mentioning that it is joyful and relaxing. You also describe disadvantages, such as noise, safety concerns ('afraidable'), and potential shortages of food and water. Finally, you state whether you would like to go camping together, enthusiastically writing 'i will go with you at all cost.' However, the tone and content shift somewhat abruptly regarding your friend's personal circumstances ('your father is ill'), which creates a slight confusion about whether you advise going or not. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed, earning a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter has a clear overall structure with a salutation, body paragraphs, and a sign-off. However, paragraphing is somewhat irregular, and the flow of ideas is disjointed. Sentences like 'Sory for that, yesterday i wasnot attend your birthday party' feel disconnected from the main camping topic. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'On the otherhand' and 'In the circumstances.' Referencing is also occasionally unclear, leading to a mechanical progression between sentences and ideas. More careful use of transition words and logical grouping of sentences into distinct paragraphs would significantly improve readability and coherence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple words such as 'joyful', 'much', and 'thing'. There are noticeable word-formation and choice errors throughout the response, such as 'grach' instead of grace, 'felt' instead of feel, 'afraidable' instead of frightening or unsafe, and 'supplies' instead of supplied. While communication is generally maintained despite these inaccuracies, the range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, preventing the response from reaching a higher band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response contains a mixture of simple and attempted complex sentences, but grammatical accuracy is quite low. There are frequent errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation, such as 'yesterday i wasnot attend', 'you will thinking', 'if your a child' (likely meaning 'if you were a child'), and missing spaces after commas and periods. Furthermore, the sign-off 'Yous obediently' is inappropriately formal and incorrect for a letter to a friend. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate limited control over complex grammatical structures.
