Dear Sam,

I hope you are doing well. First of all i am really happy that you are thinking of going on a camping holiday. I bet this will be wonderfull experience, Moreover, i would like to give you some advice on camping as i have personal experience. To add more, camping in mountain is a great adventure but it has negative side too so do not forget to bring safety equipments as there might me wild animals roaming around in the forest, However, please bring 2 tourchs with you as nights there are really dark and you might need it.

Although, in your way you will see lot of wild mushroon which is a size of a big rock and you will enjoy watching this. And i almost forget to mention that i am also planning of going on a camping so how about i join you. Let me know your thoughts in this.

I look forward to your positive response. Thank you for your time and understanding and see you soon.

Love,

Suhani Jingar.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The student has successfully addressed all three bullet points required in the task instructions. First, the writer explains why their friend would enjoy camping, mentioning that it is a great adventure and highlighting the scenery and wildlife. Second, the potential disadvantages are covered, specifically noting the presence of wild animals and the need for safety equipment, alongside practical challenges like dark nights. Third, the writer clearly states their desire to join the trip, asking to accompany the friend this summer. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout. However, some ideas lack full extension and are slightly brief, such as the mention of wild mushrooms. Despite these minor limitations, all requirements of the prompt are adequately covered, leading to a solid performance for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a generally clear overall progression, with an appropriate opening greeting and a friendly closing. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Moreover', and 'Although' are used to connect ideas, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or forced, such as 'To add more' and 'However'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the text is divided into rather short, block-like paragraphs that could be better structured to group related ideas together. For instance, the discussion of disadvantages and equipment is somewhat jumbled into a single dense sentence. Referencing is mostly clear, but punctuation errors around conjunctions slightly disrupt the flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'adventure', 'equipments', and 'roaming around'. However, there are notable lexical and spelling errors that affect accuracy, such as 'wonderfull' instead of 'wonderful', 'tourchs' instead of 'torches', and 'mushroon' instead of 'mushroom'. Furthermore, 'equipments' is used as a countable noun, which is incorrect. While these errors do not impede overall communication and the tone is suitable for a personal letter to a friend, the vocabulary control prevents the response from reaching a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating conjunctions like 'although', 'as', and 'when'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several punctuation and capitalization errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('First of all i am really happy') and comma splices or run-on sentences, particularly in the lengthy sentence starting with 'To add more, camping in mountain...'. Subject-verb agreement and article use also show lapses, such as 'camping in mountain' missing an article or plural form. Although the meaning remains understandable, the frequency of basic grammatical slips keeps this criterion at a lower band.
