Student answer (Band 6.0)

How have you been ? It feels like months since we last did conversation. The main purpose of my email is to give you some information for your first time summer holiday camping.

In my perpactive, I really think that you would definitely enjoy your camping holiday. The main thing is you never have experience like this before in your life, which make it more adventures for you. In addition, during camping you really feel calmness of the nature, because where we live today in city is too noisy.

However, there are also some cones for doing this holiday camping. Firstly, you might feel unwell after returning, because you do not have habit to live outside in a high temperature. Secondly, because of sleeping in sleeping bags there might be a chance your body feel pain.

I really wish, I would join you but during that time I am quite busy for my personal work. I hope my email would help you. If you need more information just let me know.

Yours truly,

Himanshi Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You successfully explain why your friend would enjoy camping, mentioning that it is a unique experience that provides a sense of calm away from the noisy city. You also describe possible disadvantages, such as feeling unwell due to high temperatures and physical discomfort from sleeping bags. Finally, you clearly state whether you would like to go camping with your friend, explaining that personal work keeps you busy. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout. All parts of the prompt are addressed adequately, making this a solid performance for Task Achievement, closely aligning with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter is generally coherent and follows a logical overall arrangement. You use basic paragraphing to separate the greeting, the purpose of the email, the advantages, the disadvantages, and the closing. However, cohesive devices are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, expressions like 'The main thing is' and 'there are also some cones' feel a bit abrupt. Referencing is mostly clear, but the progression between sentences could be smoother with more varied linking words. Paragraphing is used sufficiently for a short letter, matching the Band 6 descriptors well.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but it contains noticeable errors and awkward word choices. For instance, 'did conversation' should be 'had a conversation', 'perpactive' is a misspelling of 'perspective', and 'cones' is a misuse of the word for 'cons' or 'disadvantages'. Phrases like 'do not have habit to live outside' lack natural collocation. While you attempt some less common vocabulary, inaccuracies in word choice and spelling prevent you from achieving a higher band. Communication remains clear despite these flaws, fitting the Band 5.0 to 5.5 profile.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The main purpose of my email is to give you...' and '...because where we live today in city is too noisy.' There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in city' instead of 'in the city'), tense inconsistencies ('you never have experience'), and prepositions ('busy for my personal work' instead of 'busy with'). However, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning is generally clear. The control of grammar corresponds to a Band 5.5 level.
