Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Ava
I hope you are in good health. I read your letter which you have send to me last week. i am so glad to heard that you have planned a camping trip in this summer. According to me, this is a great idea.
I know that its your childhood dream to do a camping and I fully support you. Moreover, According to my prespective you will definetly enjoyed it. As it contain a lot of experience. Firstly, you will get the chance to get closer to the nature. Which is quite good in this stressfull environment. Secondly, over there you will get a time to socialize with different kind of communities. However, you will get to know about their culture and values. lastly, definately, you will come up with new ideas and mindset.
Despite of having so many advantages they do have a disadvantages. The most prominant drawback is that over there you will not be able to find the basic facitities such as hospitals, network and many more. So be careful, don't touch anything if you don;t know because it might be dangerours. In addition to that, you don't have any guide tour who will guide you throughout the tour. Last but not least, you will not be able to find the good network over there.
Even, our friends are thinking too to go on camping but, due to my hectic schedule I am not able to make a plan with them. But, I want to say you must enjoy everything. Don't forget to send me the photographs of your journey. I am looking forward for your another letter where you will tell me the whole experience.
Your lovingly

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. The student explains why the friend would enjoy camping, such as getting closer to nature and socializing with different communities. Disadvantages are also described, including the lack of basic facilities and absence of a tour guide. Finally, the letter addresses whether the writer would join this summer, explaining that a hectic schedule prevents it. However, some ideas are a bit underdeveloped and repetitive, such as mentioning the lack of network twice. The tone is suitably informal and friendly throughout. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the Band 6 descriptor where all parts are addressed though some elements are slightly repetitive or underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical letter-writing format with an appropriate greeting and sign-off. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as advantages and disadvantages. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The student overuses transitional phrases like 'Moreover', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Lastly' in a somewhat rigid manner. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'they do have a disadvantages' where the pronoun reference is slightly loose. Paragraphs could transition more smoothly to achieve a higher band level, but the overall structure remains clear and easy to follow, aligning well with Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic ideas about camping. There are attempts at less common vocabulary such as 'stressfull environment', 'socialize', and 'prominant drawback'. However, there are notable word choice and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'prespective' instead of perspective, 'definetly' instead of definitely, 'facitities' instead of facilities, and 'dangerours' instead of dangerous. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they reflect the limitations of Band 5 or lower-end Band 6 lexical control, where spelling inaccuracies and occasional awkward collocations occur.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense usage, capitalization, and punctuation. For instance, the opening contains several errors: 'which you have send to me last week', 'i am so glad to heard', and 'in this summer' instead of 'this summer'. Other errors include punctuation issues like comma splices and lowercase letters at the start of sentences ('i am', 'lastly, definately'). While these errors do not completely obscure the message, they cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar score from reaching a higher band. The density of errors places this response firmly at Band 5.0.
