Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Rohit,
I hope you're doing well. I'm glad you are asking me for a valuable advice for your upcoming holiday trip to Rishikesh, a city of mountains and rivers.
I am sure you would really enjoy the whole tour if you do planning carefully. Apart from this, it is your first time to experience camping in a peaceful natural setting, which would be unforgettable memory for you. As you are fond of admiring nature, it is quite realistic opportunity to visit such place where you would enjoy the stunning landscapes including flowing rivers, tall pine trees and rocky mountains.
On the other hand, there are some drawbacks to visit Rishikesh for camping. Perhaps, there would be high rainfall in this summer, which would quite dangerous to stay there and enjoy the surroundings. Besides this, there is no frequent public transportation, which I find quite stressful for visitors.
As you know it is my favourite destination because of visually appealing-oriented environment, and stay in tent make it an adventurous place to live. Therefore, I would love to join you in this trip to enjoy the camping again.
I can't wait to see you soon.
Take care,
Mohit

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, satisfying the requirements for Task Achievement while showing qualities of both the lower and higher bands. The student successfully explains why the friend would enjoy camping in Rishikesh, mentioning the peaceful natural setting and stunning landscapes. Disadvantages such as high rainfall and a lack of public transportation are also clearly described, and the letter concludes by confirming that the writer would like to join the trip. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation of the drawbacks could be expanded with more specific details rather than brief mentions of weather and transport. Overall, the communication of purpose is clear and appropriate for a general correspondence task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout, earning a strong score for Coherence and Cohesion. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, with a standard salutation and sign-off, as well as distinct paragraphs for each prompt requirement. Cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this', 'On the other hand', and 'Besides this' are used to connect ideas effectively, guiding the reader smoothly from one point to the next. Referencing throughout the letter is generally clear, ensuring that pronouns like 'it' and 'you' are easy to follow. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, contributing to an overall coherent structure that meets all expectations for this band level.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, displaying a sufficient range for the writer to communicate their ideas. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'stunning landscapes', 'peaceful natural setting', and 'adventurous place', which show an awareness of style and collocation. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as writing 'a valuable advice' (advice is uncountable) and 'visually appealing-oriented environment', which slightly lower the precision of expression. Spelling and word choice errors are present, but they do not impede communication, allowing the reader to easily follow the message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an acceptable control over basic grammar. Structures such as conditional clauses ('if you do planning carefully') and relative clauses ('where you would enjoy') are attempted. There are, however, some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including article misuse in 'to visit such place', preposition errors in 'drawbacks to visit', and tense or verb form inconsistencies like 'if you do planning'. These errors persist but rarely impede communication, and the majority of simple structures remain clear and accurate.
