Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Rahul,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you that, I heard that you are planning to go to camping holiday for this summer.
Firstly, its sounds good that you are finally decided to go in vacation. I would like to say if your going for vacation trip then do not miss the holiday camping because you will love in doing camping by sleeping in tent at night in forest. You will feel you are sleeping in the lap of jungle also sound of forest will give you different relaxation.
Secondly, there are some negative impacts of doing such activities because it is danger to do camping in forest where there are many dangerous wildlife in forest which may harm to you so be careful of such incidents. Always be alert of such incidents.
Finally, I would say rather going alone its good idea to go with your friends as you will enjoy the most and also there will be less chance of injury as friend will take care of it .
I hope you will understand what I am trying to say.
Best wishes,
Nikesh Yadav

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the main bullets of the task, though the ideas are limited and under-developed. For instance, the first bullet is partially covered by mentioning the appeal of sleeping in a tent and the sounds of the forest, but the explanation remains basic. Similarly, the disadvantages are touched upon by mentioning dangerous wildlife, yet the expansion lacks specific details about why camping can be challenging for a beginner. The final bullet regarding whether you would like to go camping together is addressed, but the reasoning lacks depth. To reach higher bands, the candidate needs to extend and support all points more fully, ensuring every part of the prompt is thoroughly explored.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation in the letter, with basic paragraphing used to separate different points, such as using 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the logical flow between sentences feels disjointed at times. Cohesive devices are sometimes repetitive or basic, such as the frequent reliance on 'such incidents' and 'also'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the transition from discussing wildlife dangers to advising alertness without smooth linking. To achieve a higher band, the writer should employ a wider range of cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure a clearer, smoother progression of ideas from one paragraph to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common expressions, such as 'lap of jungle' and 'negative impacts', but these contain noticeable lexical errors or awkward collocations. There are also instances of imprecise word choice, such as writing 'doing camping by sleeping' instead of simply 'camping', and 'in doing camping'. While communication is generally maintained, the repetition of basic words and phrase choices restricts the score. To progress further, the student should expand their range of vocabulary, focusing on precise word choice, natural collocations, and varied descriptive terms suitable for informal correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. For example, clauses are often strung together awkwardly with commas or conjunctions, as seen in 'I am writing this letter to inform you that, I heard that you are planning to go to camping holiday...'. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout, including incorrect prepositions ('go in vacation', 'love in doing'), missing articles ('is danger to do camping'), and issues with verb forms ('if your going'). These errors require the reader to occasionally pause to interpret the intended meaning. To improve, the writer needs to increase their control over basic grammar rules, tense consistency, and complex sentence formation.
