Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by explaining why your friend would enjoy camping, mentioning disadvantages such as bugs and setting up tents, and confirming your willingness to join this summer. However, the ideas are rather limited and under-developed, lacking sufficient elaboration to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band. For instance, the explanation of why she would enjoy nature is very brief, and the disadvantages are listed rather than expanded upon. Additionally, the response falls short of the minimum length requirement, containing 139 words instead of the required 150 words, which impacts the overall completeness of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter shows some basic organization with a clear greeting and sign-off, but it lacks an overall sense of logical progression and smooth transitions between ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences often run together without adequate cohesive devices. For example, the transition from discussing camping benefits to disadvantages relies on a simplistic 'There might be some disadvantages', and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'this issues' where a plural form is needed. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, preventing the response from achieving a more fluent and cohesive flow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your general message about camping. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the letter, such as 'decdided', 'suff', 'trevaling', and 'experinence'. You attempt some less common phrases like 'in the lap of the nature', but these contain unnatural collocations. These lexical shortcomings and spelling mistakes cause some minor difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted range of vocabulary suitable for expressing more precise meanings.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammar demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few basic attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, articles, and agreement, such as 'Hope you doing well' missing the auxiliary verb, 'you thinking about' lacking a verb form, and 'i went to camping' which misuses prepositions. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent, with missing capital letters for names like 'mary' and personal pronouns starting lower case. These frequent grammatical errors can cause some difficulty for the reader in following the exact sentence structures.
