Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Harry, Good morning hope you are doing well, I got your email that you want to go to camping this summer for the first time which is a great idea as in our area there are lot of campsites.

I personally recommend you to go to High Park, As i know you have alot of workload and you did not take any vacations in a long time. Camping helps reduce stress and you'll feel fresher and you can enjoy barbecue and see the sunset at the side of river enjoy your meal and feel close to the nature.

However, it will be your time, so do not forget to take proper food, blanket and other stuff with you. At night you might face difficulty sleeping because of weird sounds of birds and animals, so take earbuds with you. and do not forget to take woods with for cooking food because you may not find dry wood.

I am thinking i can join you so we can enjoy more and help each other find a proper spot for camp and we can walk on trails see the mountain and water view from the peaks. so tell me when you're planning to visit so i can set my scgedule with you

Your best friend

Ammy

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain why your friend would enjoy camping, such as reducing stress and enjoying a barbecue, describe disadvantages like difficulty sleeping due to wildlife noises and finding dry wood, and clearly state your willingness to join your friend this summer. All parts of the task are addressed, which meets the standard for this level. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended; for instance, the explanation of disadvantages could be expanded with more specific camping details. To reach a higher level, you should ensure every idea is fully elaborated with richer details and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear friendly tone and logical progression from greeting to recommendations, disadvantages, and the offer to join. Paragraphs are used to separate different aspects of the letter. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in the extensive use of commas to link clauses rather than appropriate conjunctions or full stops, leading to run-on sentences like 'I personally recommend you to go to High Park, As i know...'. Additionally, referencing can be slightly unclear at times. To improve, you should focus on varying your cohesive devices and using accurate punctuation to separate sentences more clearly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully communicating your message about camping. You make some attempts at less common vocabulary such as 'workload' and 'scgedule', but there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including the misspelling of 'scgedule' and awkward phrasing like 'take woods with for cooking food'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a limited and minimally adequate lexical range. To achieve a higher score, you should work on expanding your range of less common lexical items, improving collocation awareness, and carefully checking your spelling before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying heavily on long compound sentences joined by conjunctions or commas. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as article omissions ('go to camping', 'side of river'), preposition errors ('with for cooking'), and comma splices throughout the text. These errors can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve your grammatical range and accuracy, you need to practise forming more complex sentence structures accurately, pay closer attention to articles and prepositions, and break down long, run-on sentences into grammatically sound simple or complex sentences with correct punctuation.
