Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, but the ideas are presented in a limited and under-developed way. For example, while the writer mentions why Preet would enjoy camping ("fresh air and do adventure activity like fishing, swimming and hiking"), the explanation remains basic. The disadvantages are touched upon briefly ("be aware... about the height and with animal... its dangerous as well"), but lacks sufficient detail or expansion. The final bullet point, addressing whether you would like to go camping together, is included ("I m also thinking to join to you"), but the overall treatment of the task remains partially developed and relies heavily on simple, repetitive ideas rather than fully expanding on the points requested in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation evident in the letter, as the writer attempts to divide ideas into separate paragraphs matching different parts of the task. However, there is no clear overall progression between the ideas, and paragraphing is irregular, with random spacing and indentation. Cohesive devices are minimal, inadequate, and sometimes repetitive, such as the repeated use of simple conjunctions and pronouns without clear referencing. For instance, transitional phrases between sentences are largely absent, making the flow somewhat mechanical and disjointed. The letter opens with a standard greeting and closes with an incorrect sign-off format ("Your faithfully" instead of "Yours faithfully"), showing limited control over letter-writing conventions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for a basic personal letter. The writer relies on simple, everyday words and makes noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation, such as writing "about the camping" instead of just "camping", and "adventure activity" instead of "adventure activities". There are also awkward collocations like "gave you advice" instead of "give you advice" and "take rest for sometime" instead of "take some rest". While the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the general message, these recurring lexical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a higher level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside a few faulty attempts at complex ones, such as "I know that you do not have any experience about the camping but i think you would like it because it is very interested for you." There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and mechanics, including missing capitalisation (e.g., lowercase "i" and sentence openings), punctuation errors, and incorrect prepositions and articles (e.g., "join to you" and "take rest for sometime"). Verb forms are also occasionally inaccurate, such as "I want to gave you advice." These frequent errors require the reader to occasionally decode the intended meaning.
