Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear keema,
i hope you are doing well! I have heard thet you are going for camping and I was very excited. As this is your first camping holiday so i want to share my experience with you. I know you are travel enthusistic so you would definitely enjoy camping It would give a chance to escape you from your daily schedules, enjoy some time in fresh air and fell close to nature.
However, It has some downsides as well. It would not be that much confortable because spending night in tent would not be that much confortable as compared to hotels. You might have limited access of amenities such as showers. electricity and technology.
I would definitely love to join you but I have my exams in summer. so i do not think it would be a best time to go for the summer camping. But in future whenever you make a plan of camping then let me know i will join you for sure.
Take care,
Himanshi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points in the task: you explain that your friend may enjoy fresh air and being close to nature, mention less comfortable sleeping and limited amenities, and say you would like to join but cannot because of your exams. The friendly tone and closing are appropriate. The reasons are relevant, but some are only briefly stated; for example, you could explain more specifically why your friend’s interest in travel would make camping enjoyable. The disadvantages are also listed rather than illustrated, and your final answer focuses on being unavailable this summer rather than directly saying whether you would like to go. The response covers the task well overall, with some ideas needing fuller development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: greeting and introduction, reasons to enjoy camping, disadvantages, and your availability. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these parts, and linking expressions such as “However” and “but” show the contrast between ideas. The progression is generally easy to understand, though some connections are abrupt. For instance, “As this is your first camping holiday so i want to share my experience” combines two linking structures, and the shift from your exams to a future invitation could be smoother. Use full stops and capital letters consistently to make the boundaries between ideas clearer, and vary the transitions rather than relying mainly on simple contrast markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “escape,” “fresh air,” “close to nature,” “downsides,” and “limited access.” These choices suit an informal letter, and the reader can understand your advice. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “thet,” “enthusistic,” “fell,” and “confortable.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “escape you from your daily schedules” and “access of amenities” do not express the ideas idiomatically. Repeated use of “that much” also limits variety. Aim to learn common collocations for travel and accommodation, and proofread spelling so that your otherwise relevant vocabulary is clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause (“because I have my exams in summer”) and a contrast with “but.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “As this is your first camping holiday so…” uses two conjunctions where one is needed, while “spending night in tent” is missing articles. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “i” and the full stop before “so i do not think.” The sentence beginning “I know you are travel…” needs a grammatical form after “are.” Work on articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries; these corrections would make your varied sentence attempts more controlled.
