Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Priyank,
I am writing to suggest you a well-known one day camping destination that I believe would be very enjoyable and it is non other than Blue Mountains.
I know that you have never done camping before and want to experience it this summer and blue mountains would be a perfect place for you. I would definetely join you, however, my commitments towards family would not allow me to explore this wonderful location with you this time.
Although I am not coming, I wolud be very pleased to decribe you about the place. Being a person very close to nature, you have a plethora of activities to do at Blue Mountains, for example, hiking through forest and spending a night in a tent at the top of the mountain.
However, there will be some challenges you are definetely going to face while this trip such as lack of potable water. Therfore, you have to always carry a water bottle. Also, bring a first aid kit wits you as there will be fewer resources avalilable for an immediate assistance.
I hope you enjoy the trip and come back with lots of memories.
Your lovingly,
Akash

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you recommend the Blue Mountains, give reasons your friend may enjoy the trip, mention practical difficulties, and say you cannot join because of family commitments. The advice about hiking and sleeping in a tent is relevant, and the water and first-aid suggestions make the disadvantages concrete. However, enjoyment is explained only briefly, and the disadvantages focus mainly on preparation rather than describing how camping itself might be uncomfortable or challenging. The opening also calls it a “one day” destination, while later suggesting an overnight stay, which makes the recommendation slightly unclear. Develop each point more evenly and clarify the kind of trip you are proposing to make the letter more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall sequence: recommendation and invitation, reasons to go, possible difficulties, and a friendly closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and transitions such as “Although” and “However” guide the reader through the contrast between your enthusiasm and the drawbacks. Some connections are less smooth or precise. For example, “Although I am not coming” is followed by a description of the place, but the relationship between these ideas is not fully clear; “Even though I can’t join you, here are some details” would link them more naturally. The repeated use of “However” also makes cohesion somewhat mechanical. Use a wider range of linking expressions and ensure each paragraph develops one connected point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a friendly advice letter, including relevant terms such as “potable water,” “first aid kit,” “hiking,” and “commitments.” These choices help communicate practical details, and the tone is generally appropriate. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “suggest you a … destination,” “decribe you about the place,” and “commitments towards family.” There are also spelling errors such as “definetely,” “Therfore,” and “avalilable,” which reduce accuracy even though the meaning remains understandable. Aim for natural combinations of words and check spelling carefully. For instance, use “recommend a destination to you,” “tell you about the place,” and “family commitments.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “I would definitely join you, however, my commitments … would not allow me” and the conditional-style advice about what your friend will face. Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect naturalness. In “I am writing to suggest you a … destination,” the verb pattern needs an object and a suitable preposition; “I am writing to recommend a destination to you” is clearer. “Being a person very close to nature, you have…” also has an awkward introductory construction, and “hiking through forest” needs an article or plural. Review verb patterns, articles, and punctuation around linking words; this will make your varied sentences more accurate.
