Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Amna,
I hope you're doing well. I was very excited to know that you've finally decided to go on a camping holiday this summer. I'm writing to give you some useful advice regarding it.
I think you'll have so much fun on this camping trip, as Azad Kashmir is a beautiful place, and there're many camping sites. During camping, you'll have a chance to witness the night sky adorned with stars, which is a vision to behold. Moreover, setting up a camp is so much fun. You'll always cherish these memories.
Despite the wonderful time you'll have on this camping holiday, there are some possible disadvantages of camping which cannot be disregarded. The portable toilets used during camping are not very hygienic, and they can cause urinary tract infections. There are many mosquitoes at night which will interrupt your sleep. Moreover, you will need to be very vigilant of the wild animals that usually come out in dark and might be roaming next to your camp.
I really wanted to accompany you, but I've my final exams this summer, so I'll not be able to join you. I hope you'll understand my situation, as I'd be very busy preparing for my exams.
I wish you all the very best.
Your friend,
Sara

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three points clearly: you explain why Amna may enjoy the scenery and stargazing, identify practical drawbacks, and state that you cannot join because of your final exams. The advice is relevant and supported with specific details, such as mosquitoes disturbing sleep and the need to watch for wild animals. Your friendly opening and closing also suit the purpose. Some support is broad or slightly overstated—for example, the claim that unhygienic portable toilets “can cause urinary tract infections” is presented without qualification, and the disadvantages could be balanced with practical advice. To develop the response further, explain how your friend might prepare for these challenges while keeping the tone personal and reassuring.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The information follows a clear, useful sequence: an introduction, reasons to enjoy camping, possible disadvantages, and your answer about joining. Paragraphing makes each part easy to identify, and links such as “Moreover” and “Despite” help show how ideas relate. The letter also maintains a consistent friendly tone. Some transitions are a little formulaic, particularly the repeated use of “Moreover,” and the final paragraph moves quickly from your exams to the closing. For a more polished progression, vary the linking expressions and connect the disadvantages to a brief suggestion or reassurance. Overall, the organisation is clear and the reader can follow the message without effort.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a personal letter, including descriptive phrases such as “the night sky adorned with stars” and “a vision to behold,” as well as relevant camping terms like “portable toilets” and “wild animals.” These choices make the advice specific and engaging. Some expressions are less natural or precise: “very excited to know” would usually be “pleased to hear,” while “interrupt your sleep” is less idiomatic than “disturb your sleep.” “Setting up a camp” is also less natural than “setting up camp.” The phrase “urinary tract infections” is precise, but the claim around it would benefit from cautious wording. More consistent control of natural collocations would strengthen the vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The letter includes a useful mix of simple and complex sentences, and many are accurate, such as “I think you'll have so much fun on this camping trip, as Azad Kashmir is a beautiful place” and “I hope you'll understand my situation.” Subordinate clauses and relative clauses add variety. A few grammatical choices remain less controlled: “there're” is an informal contraction that is awkward in this context, and “I've my final exams” is not the natural construction; use “I have my final exams.” In “come out in dark,” the article is missing (“in the dark”). These issues do not obscure meaning, but proofreading contractions, articles, and natural sentence patterns would improve accuracy.
