Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Khushi,

Hopefully, you and your husband are doing great, by the grace of God. The purpose of my writing today is to give you some advice about your upcoming holiday camping.

According to me, planning a holiday trip is essential to relax from a hectic work schedule. Spending time outdoors with deer gives you immense pleasure.

There are several drawbacks of camping outside. To begin with, you have to suffer from bad weather conditions and have limited facilities compared to a house. Besides this, you have limited options for food and your stay.

I would love to join you this summer for your summer vacation. It has been a long time since we met each other, so a summer trip is the best time to spend our holiday together and to remind about our old memories.

Thank you so much for your consideration. Hopefully, we will see you soon for our trip.

Kind regards,

Kevin

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you give a reason camping may be enjoyable, mention drawbacks such as bad weather and limited facilities, and clearly say, “I would love to join you this summer.” The advice is relevant, but the enjoyment point is only briefly explained: “Spending time outdoors with deer gives you immense pleasure” does not explain much about what your friend might enjoy, and the reference to deer may not apply to every campsite. The disadvantages are also listed rather than illustrated, and “limited options for food and your stay” is unclear. Develop these ideas with a specific example, such as cooking outdoors or sleeping in a tent, and make the advice more directly personal to Khushi.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, separate paragraphs for the benefits and drawbacks, a paragraph about joining the trip, and a closing. This makes the main points easy to locate. You also use basic linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “Besides this,” and “so” to connect ideas. However, some transitions feel formulaic, and the opening phrase “The purpose of my writing today” is more formal than the friendly context calls for. The final paragraph repeats “summer” and “holiday,” which weakens the flow. To strengthen progression, use a more natural conversational opening and connect each piece of advice to the next with less repetitive wording.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “hectic work schedule,” “bad weather conditions,” and “limited facilities.” These choices show some range beyond very basic language. However, several expressions are awkward or imprecise for a friendly letter: “holiday camping,” “relax from a hectic work schedule,” and “limited options for food and your stay.” “Spending time outdoors with deer” is also an unusual way to describe the appeal of camping. Aim for natural collocations and precise phrases, such as “a camping holiday,” “unwind after a busy week,” and “limited food choices and basic accommodation.” This would make your advice sound more fluent and idiomatic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

Your sentences are generally clear, and you use a mix of simple statements and longer structures, for example, “It has been a long time since we met each other, so a summer trip is the best time…” The main message remains easy to understand, and punctuation is mostly controlled. Some grammatical choices are less natural, including “relax from a hectic work schedule”; the verb pattern should be revised, for example, to “relax after a hectic work schedule.” In “a summer trip is the best time to spend our holiday together and to remind about our old memories,” the infinitive construction is awkward and the second action is not grammatically complete. Practise building parallel, complete phrases, such as “spend time together and reminisce about old memories.”
