Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sidhu,

I hope you're doing well. I am excited that you are planning of going on camping for the first time this summer. Trust me you will definitely enjoy the experience as you love outdoors.

As it is a good idea to keep yourself busy and relaxed. You can enjoy hiking, exploring the site, watching stars at night and cooking in the campfire.

Besides this, there might be some demerits related to camping as if the weather is not good or it is raining or cloudy, then it will exploit all the activities. Moreover, there might be mosquitoes and other insects. So, please don't forget to bring a sleeping bag and insect repellent with you.

I'd love to join you at the camping site as it's been long time we haven't spend time together. So I'm planning to visit you next weekend and start our trip together.

Hope to see you soon.

With love,

Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three points clearly: you explain that your friend enjoys the outdoors, give examples of activities such as hiking and stargazing, mention poor weather and insects as drawbacks, and say you would like to join the trip. Your friendly tone and closing are appropriate for writing to a friend. The advice to bring a sleeping bag and insect repellent also supports the discussion of disadvantages. To make the response more fully developed, explain a little more about why these activities would suit Sidhu personally, or how bad weather could affect the trip. The plan to visit next weekend is clear, though its connection to the summer camping trip could be made more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The ideas follow a clear order: you introduce the camping plan, describe its attractions, discuss drawbacks, and finish by offering to go together. Paragraphing helps distinguish these parts, while transitions such as “Besides this” and “Moreover” guide the reader through the points. The letter also has a suitable opening and sign-off. Some linking is slightly mechanical, and the sentence beginning “As it is a good idea” does not connect smoothly to the previous sentence. A more direct transition into the list of activities would improve the flow. You could also make the final plan to visit next weekend link more clearly to the proposed camping holiday.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “hiking,” “exploring,” “demerits,” “mosquitoes,” and “insect repellent.” The activity list is relevant and gives the letter some variety. However, several choices or combinations are unnatural, such as “planning of going on camping,” “exploit all the activities,” and “cooking in the campfire.” These reduce precision, even though the reader can generally understand your meaning. Aim for more natural collocations and a slightly wider range for describing the benefits and practical challenges of camping. For example, use “spoil the activities” for the effect of rain and “cook over a campfire” for the activity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, such as the conditional sentence about the weather and the clause “as you love outdoors.” Meaning remains clear overall, but some grammatical errors persist. For example, “I am excited that you are planning of going” has an incorrect verb pattern, and “it's been long time we haven't spend time together” contains errors in article use, tense, and verb form. The sentence beginning “As it is a good idea” is also incomplete because it lacks a main clause. Work on accurate verb patterns and past-tense forms, and check that each sentence has a complete structure. These improvements would make your varied sentences more controlled.
