Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing you to gave an advice, as you asked me for going to summer vocations for the first time. I believe you are going to have fun, because these are the first holidays in your life and you will have a chance to participate in several engaging and fun activites like hiking, cooking and survival games in the forest.
However, there are some drawbacks you must avoide; do not go in the jungle at night alone, carry necessary equipments and food & beverages when hiking and safely use harmfull tools like knife, fire extinguisher etc.
I would love to join you in this summer, but as you know i am recovering from dengeu fever, and the doctor suggested me to have some bed rest; i have an appointment with my doctor in comming days. So, it is difficult for me to be with you. Hoping best for you.
Best Regards,
XYZ.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you explain that your friend may enjoy activities such as hiking and cooking, mention safety-related drawbacks, and say you would like to join but cannot because you are recovering from dengue fever. The reason for your friend’s likely enjoyment is relevant, though the claim that these are “the first holidays in your life” is unclear and does not explain their personal appeal. The disadvantages are also less fully developed: the advice about equipment and avoiding the jungle at night is useful, but you could describe practical difficulties such as insects, uncomfortable weather, or sleeping outdoors. Your decision about joining is clear, but a warmer closing invitation or suggestion would make the letter feel more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: greeting and purpose, reasons to enjoy camping, possible drawbacks, and your response about joining. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and transitions such as “However” and “So” make the progression easy to follow. This meets the expected level of coherent organisation, with some effective linking. To make the flow more natural and precise, improve the connection between ideas within sentences: the safety advice combines several instructions in one long list, and “Hoping best for you” feels abrupt after the explanation that you cannot come. Use clearer links between the disadvantages and their consequences, and finish with a friendly closing thought that maintains the personal tone.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “hiking,” “survival games,” “drawbacks,” and “recovering,” so the main message is understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “necessary equipments” and “harmfull tools,” but inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations reduce precision. “Summer vocations” does not convey the intended meaning as naturally as “summer holiday,” and “go in the jungle” is an awkward choice for this context. Some expressions, including “engaging and fun activities,” are understandable but repetitive. Aim to choose familiar, accurate collocations first, and check spelling and countability; this will make your vocabulary more reliable without requiring unusually advanced words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because,” a contrast introduced by “but,” and a sentence explaining your doctor’s advice. These structures help communicate the main ideas, although some grammatical errors remain. For example, “I am writing you to gave an advice” has an incorrect verb form and article pattern; “the doctor suggested me to have” uses an unsuitable construction; and “i am recovering” needs a capital letter. The long safety sentence also needs clearer punctuation and sentence boundaries. Practise accurate verb patterns such as “suggested that I rest” and “I am writing to give you some advice,” while checking articles, pronouns, and capitalization.
