Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Priya,

I hope everything is going well! It's always wonderful to hearing from you. I'm glad that this summer finally you got off from the work and planning to go on a camping holiday at Beaverment Park. I must say, you will have fun over there.

I remember, you always wanted to experience bonefire near lakeshore, and guess what, the place offers that. Moreover, you will have a chance to enjoy Canoeing over there. Fishing is also a great activity to do as the lake has many of types of fishes and you can enjoy it as a dinner as well.

However, there are some demerits as well to this place. This campground is a busy place, if you don't pre-book the spot, you won't get place for camping. Another major drawback is noisy environment, neighbour's noise will affect your sleep if they are night owls. As campgrounds are generally populated, you might find difficulty in having privacy. Otherwise, you will enjoy the trip, don't worry!

I was just wondering, if you have place for me I can join you as I was also thinking to go for a vacation. Please let me know the schedule so that I can book off accordingly.

Convey my regards to Mom and Dad.

With Love,

Anushka

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you explain why Priya may enjoy the lake, canoeing and fishing, identify drawbacks such as booking difficulties, noise and limited privacy, and say you would like to join her. The friendly tone and closing are appropriate for a letter to a friend. Your reasons are relevant and generally supported with details, especially the activities available at the campground. Some points are less fully developed: for example, you mention that fishing could provide dinner but do not explain what makes the experience appealing to Priya, and the disadvantages are listed more than explored. A little more personal explanation and development of these ideas would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression from greeting and enthusiasm, to reasons for going, possible disadvantages, and your offer to join. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “Otherwise” make the relationships between ideas clear. The closing also suits the informal context. At times, however, the linking feels slightly mechanical, and the transition from the disadvantages to “Otherwise, you will enjoy the trip” is abrupt. The sentence beginning “This campground is a busy place” joins two complete ideas with a comma, which weakens the flow. Use a full stop or a conjunction there, and connect the final reassurance more directly to the drawbacks.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “camping holiday,” “Canoeing,” “pre-book,” “night owls,” and “privacy.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some expressions help create a warm, conversational tone. There are also several inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “bonefire” is misspelled, “got off from the work” is not a natural expression, and “many of types of fishes” is awkward. “Demerits” is understandable but sounds less natural in this friendly letter than “drawbacks.” Aim for accurate collocations and consistent capitalization of ordinary activity names. More natural phrasing would make your vocabulary sound more fluent without changing the friendly style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the conditional “if you don't pre-book the spot, you won't get place” and the clause “if they are night owls.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “wonderful to hearing” should be “wonderful to hear,” and “you got off from the work and planning” needs a clearer, parallel structure, such as “you have time off work and are planning.” Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention in “you won't get place for camping” and “This campground is a busy place, if…”. Check verb forms, articles, and punctuation when editing; improving these areas would make your varied sentences more consistently accurate.
