Student answer (Band 4.5)

Dear Asha,

How've you been?I'm glad to hear that you are planning this summer as a memorable holiday to explore a camping trip for the first time.As a best friend of you, I was so excited and happy for your upcoming moments on this staycation.

Knowing you from my childhood, I was already aware about the good and bad in your character.Apart from this, your parents have stringent rules upon your behaviour, talking and talents. At that time I wish that once in your lifetime, you have to live upon your choices. Therefore,I believe that this a good chance for you to upbring and nourish your mindset as well as your mentalty in a proper way.

Moreover, from my knowledge you are not aware about your personal belongings such as mobile phone and wallet. Following this, you need to be more careful on this mattter. Also don't indulge on others personal matters on your head.

When I got my annual vacation on the next year, I am planning to enjoy a winter trip with you in himachal pradesh.Likewise,we get a chance to recover our past memories and make new ones.

I hope you get a lot of good memories and happiness on your holiday. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.I love you so much and may god bless you.

Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The letter has a friendly opening and closing, and it gives a reason your friend might benefit from the trip: you say it could help her make her own choices and develop her mindset. However, the task is only partially addressed. This reason focuses mainly on her character and family rules rather than explaining what she might enjoy about camping itself, such as nature, outdoor activities, or time away from routine. The disadvantages are also unclear: advice about looking after a phone and wallet is relevant, but “don't indulge on others personal matters” does not describe a camping-related drawback. Finally, you mention a winter trip next year, so it is not clear whether you would join her camping this summer. State your answer directly and develop each point with relevant details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response is divided into paragraphs, and the sequence broadly moves from an opening to reasons, advice, future plans, and a closing. Connectors such as “Moreover,” “Therefore,” and “Likewise” show an effort to link ideas. However, the progression is difficult to follow because several points do not clearly connect to the camping holiday, and some references are unclear—for example, “At that time” and “Following this.” The paragraph about personal belongings shifts abruptly from the earlier discussion of her parents’ rules. The final plan to travel next winter also does not clearly answer the question about this summer. Organise the body around the three requested points, and use simpler, more precise links between them.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of vocabulary, including “stringent rules,” “personal belongings,” “recover our past memories,” and “upbring and nourish your mindset.” Some choices are ambitious, but several are unnatural or inaccurate in context, which can make the message harder to understand. For example, “upbring” is not the right form here, “staycation” does not fit a camping holiday, and “recover our past memories” is not a natural way to describe sharing memories. There are also spelling and word-form slips such as “mattter” and “mentalty.” Aim for clear, natural phrases that directly describe camping, such as “enjoy the fresh air,” “keep valuables safe,” and “make new memories.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The letter includes attempts at longer structures, such as “Knowing you from my childhood…” and “When I got my annual vacation on the next year…,” as well as shorter sentences that communicate basic ideas. However, the range is limited and complex attempts are often faulty. Examples include “I was already aware about” (the preposition pattern is incorrect), “I believe that this a good chance” (missing verb), and “I am planning to enjoy a winter trip with you in himachal pradesh” (tense and time reference are confusing). Punctuation and spacing also need attention, as in “How've you been?I'm glad…” and “Also don't…”. Practise accurate sentence patterns and check verb forms, articles, and punctuation before submitting.
