Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Friend,
I hope you are doing well. I was very happy to hear that you are planning to go camping during this summer vacation, and I am thankful to you for asking me for suggestions.
I would recommend that you go for an adventure experience. As I know, you always prefer challenging things in your life; you enjoy a lot on camping. Moreover, there are several recreational activities you can experience, such as climbing a mountain, which can be a different thrill, preparing meals on sticks, and sleeping in a tent under the sky.
However, there are a few drawbacks; for instance, you might fall while climbing or get mosquito bites. I am also excited to join you, but I have extra classes during vacations. Therefore, I am not able to come with you. I promise you we will catch up soon and organise a trip after my board exam.
Please feel free to call me if you need any further information. Take care and stay in touch.
Best wishes,
Almas

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain why camping may suit your friend, mention risks such as falling or getting mosquito bites, and clearly say you cannot join because of extra classes. The friendly tone and promise to organise a later trip make the letter appropriate. The reasons for enjoyment are relevant, but some are not fully explained: for example, you list activities without showing why they would appeal to your friend beyond saying they enjoy challenges. The disadvantages are also brief and limited to physical risks. To strengthen the response, develop these points with a little more detail, such as the discomfort of bad weather or the enjoyment of spending time outdoors together. Your main message is clear, though some ideas are less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression from greeting and context to reasons for camping, possible drawbacks, your availability, and a friendly closing. Paragraphing helps separate the main ideas, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “Therefore” guide the reader through the message. The sequence is easy to follow, and the final invitation to call is a suitable closing touch. Some connections could be more natural and precise: “I am also excited to join you, but I have extra classes” shifts quickly from enthusiasm to refusal, and the relationship between the activities in the list is not always smooth. Use transitions that clarify the contrast and group related details more deliberately to make the progression feel more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for an informal letter, including “challenging,” “recreational activities,” “drawbacks,” and “organise a trip.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and the tone remains friendly. There are, however, some awkward or imprecise collocations that limit naturalness. “You enjoy a lot on camping” does not express the intended meaning idiomatically, while “preparing meals on sticks” is unclear and may not describe the activity accurately. “Different thrill” is also an unnatural combination. Aim for more precise phrases such as enjoying outdoor activities, cooking over a campfire, or experiencing an exciting challenge. This would make the vocabulary more flexible and natural while preserving the clear meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea (“you might fall while climbing”) and a sentence with a reason and result (“I have extra classes… Therefore, I am not able to come”). Many sentences are clear and correctly punctuated, and the reader can follow your message without difficulty. A few grammatical issues remain. In “As I know,” the introductory phrase is not formed naturally; “As far as I know” would be more appropriate. The sentence “you enjoy a lot on camping” also has an incorrect grammatical pattern, and “I promise you we will catch up soon” would be clearer with “that” after “promise.” Continue checking sentence patterns and clause links, while retaining the variety of structures you already attempt.
