Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear John,
How have you been? It feels like ages since we last caught up! I read your message and I am absolutely thrilled that you are planning to go for camping this summer.
I believe you'll have the best time this summer as I know you have a busy schedule. Being an IT professional, managing core responsibilities and project deadlines, ties a person to a limited world. I believe during your holidays, you have the opportunity to spend more time with your family and friends.
However, don't forget to have a close look on the wheather prior to your journey because lanslides may occur during heavy rains. Also, make sure to gather all the necessary equipments required for camping, as there is no stores on your way.
I seriously want to join you guys but I have to sttend an important business meeting next Saturday, for that I need to prepare in advance. I'll surely connect you via facetime when you reach on the top.
Have a safe journey and camping.
Best regards,
Vishal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address all three points: you explain that camping could offer a break from a busy IT job and time with family and friends, mention risks in bad weather and the need to bring supplies, and say you cannot join because of a business meeting. The friendly opening and closing also suit the letter. However, the reasons your friend would enjoy camping are quite general, and the disadvantages are presented mainly as warnings rather than developed drawbacks. Your final point is also slightly unclear: “I seriously want to join you guys” is followed by a reason you cannot attend, while the FaceTime comment does not clearly confirm whether you would like to go. Develop these ideas and state your decision more directly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: greeting and introduction, reasons to enjoy the trip, practical cautions, and your response about joining. Paragraph breaks help the reader follow these stages, and transitions such as “However” and “Also” make the relationship between ideas clear. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in linking ideas. To make the progression more consistently smooth, connect the advice more explicitly to your friend’s likely experience and clarify the shift from wanting to join to being unable to attend. The phrase “for that” in the final paragraph creates an awkward link between the meeting and your need to prepare, and “you guys” is not fully clear when addressing John alone.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a friendly letter, including phrases such as “busy schedule,” “project deadlines,” “necessary equipment,” and “business meeting.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common language, such as “core responsibilities.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy: “wheather,” “lanslides,” “equipments,” and “sttend.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, including “a limited world,” “have a close look on the weather,” and “connect you via FaceTime.” These do not prevent understanding, but more natural collocations and careful proofreading would strengthen control. Prefer familiar, accurate phrasing when a more ambitious expression is uncertain.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the reason clause “as I know you have a busy schedule” and the conditional warning “because landslides may occur during heavy rains.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the errors do not generally obstruct communication. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain, however. In “there is no stores,” the plural subject requires “there are no stores”; “all the necessary equipments required” has an incorrect plural form, and “I’ll surely connect you” needs a different grammatical pattern, such as “I’ll surely contact you.” The sentence beginning “Being an IT professional…” is also awkwardly constructed. Review agreement, countable nouns, and sentence construction while retaining your attempts at complex forms.
