Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Karan,

How are you ? I hope you and your family is doing well. Last week I got your letter regarding your plan to go on camp. I know it is your first time, I would love to suggest you best places to camp and what to take with you and what not !

As you are an extrovert person who always try to explore new things. Not only you will love being that close to nature on your trip but also you'll have great memories over there also. There are things which you should be take care of like having Magnetic watch with you all time, water bottles and things like torch, rope and knife. Try to forecast weather before leaving home, so that you don't get stuck in Worst conditions such as Landslides, flood etc.

I would love to go for camping with you karan but I have my exams from next week, I'll be busy with that. But I promise next time we'll be going together to camp.

Yours lovingly,

Anmol

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the three requested points: you explain that Karan may enjoy being close to nature and making memories, mention hazards such as landslides and floods, and say you would like to go but cannot because of exams. The friendly opening and closing also suit a letter to a friend. However, the advice about disadvantages is less fully developed: the hazards are presented mainly as reasons to check the weather, rather than explaining what makes camping difficult. The opening promises suggestions about places and what to take, but does not give any places, and the equipment list is not clearly linked to the disadvantages. Develop these ideas more directly and make sure each point introduced is followed through.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall shape, moving from the greeting and context to reasons for enjoying camping, practical advice, and your availability. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and phrases such as “Not only … but also” and “But” show attempts to connect ideas. Some links are awkward or unclear, however. The first paragraph promises several kinds of advice, while the next shifts between personality, enjoyment, equipment, and weather without clear transitions. “There are things which you should be take care of” also makes the relationship between the advice and the earlier points difficult to follow. Group the enjoyment reasons separately from disadvantages and practical precautions, and use clearer references to connect each idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “nature,” “torch,” “rope,” “forecast weather,” and “Landslides.” These choices make the camping context clear, and the tone is appropriately friendly. However, several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “go on camp,” “best places to camp,” and “being that close to nature on your trip.” “Magnetic watch” is also unclear in this context, and “Worst conditions” is an imprecise label for the hazards listed. These word-choice and collocation issues limit the precision of the message, even though the reader can generally understand it. Aim for natural camping expressions and choose vocabulary that accurately describes the equipment, risks, and experience.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex forms, including “Not only … but also” and a sentence explaining that exams prevent you from joining Karan. The main message remains understandable, but there are several errors in agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction. For example, “you and your family is” should use a plural verb, “you should be take care of” has an incorrect verb pattern, and “who always try” does not agree with its subject. The opening fragment “As you are an extrovert person who always try to explore new things” is not a complete sentence. There are also punctuation and capitalization slips, such as the space before the question mark and capitalizing “Worst” mid-sentence. Check agreement and sentence completeness when editing.
