Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear karan,

I hope you're in your pink of health. I am very happy to know that you're planning to go on camping in this summer holidays. I know it is your first time but it'll be a great experience for you. On camp not only you will be close to nature but also spend quality time with your friends which will be unforgettable later.

Well, there are some issues also which you have to think about before you leave. You may have to deal with unexpected rain, insects and electricity problem. I would say should carry some beneficial things with you, such as rope, torch, tents and magnetic watches as well. So that In case you get into a trouble, you can handle it with a ease.

I wish i could come with you for this summer camp, but I've my exams from next week. For that I've to study hard as it will be deciding my carrier.

I would love to hear from you back.

With love,

Anmol

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points in the task: you explain that camping offers closeness to nature and time with friends, mention possible problems such as rain and insects, and clearly say you cannot join because of your exams. The friendly opening and closing also suit a letter to a friend. This meets the task well, but some ideas are less fully developed than others. The benefits are stated generally, without an example of what your friend might enjoy doing, and the disadvantages are mostly listed rather than explained. The advice about equipment is relevant, but could be more clearly connected to the problems. Add a little explanation or a practical example for each main point to make the response more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear overall progression: you begin with encouragement, move to possible difficulties and advice, then explain why you cannot attend. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking phrases such as “Well” and “but” help guide the reader. The ideas are generally easy to follow, which is a strength. Some connections could be smoother, however. “So that” begins a fragment after the equipment list, and “For that” does not link the exams and studying as naturally as it could. The final request to hear back is appropriate, though “I would love to hear from you back” is awkward. Use complete sentences and more natural transitions to make the cohesion more flexible and polished.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “unexpected rain,” “insects,” “torch,” and “quality time.” There are also attempts at more expressive language, such as “unforgettable.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “in your pink of health,” “go on camping,” “electricity problem,” and “magnetic watches” do not express the intended meanings naturally. “Carrier” is also the wrong word in the context of future work or studies. These choices are understandable from context but make parts of the letter less fluent. Focus on common, accurate collocations and check spelling and word forms before using less familiar expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the “not only … but also” construction and clauses introduced by “which” and “but.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the paragraphing helps the reader follow it. Some grammatical errors persist, though. For example, “On camp not only you will be close to nature” has an awkward word order, while “I would say should carry” is missing a subject. “So that In case…” is not a complete sentence, and “with a ease” has an article error. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “i” and “In.” Review sentence completeness, word order, articles, and capital letters; accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentences more effective.
