Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Simran,
How are you? I hope you are doing well. l was happy to receive your letter.
It was great to hear that you were planning to go camping this summer. I would like to give you some advice which is very helpful for you.
Firstly, I think it is a great opportunity for you to enjoy your holidays beacuse you love outdoor views. Secondly, you can enjoy a hiking and beautiful scenary and also click some pictures.
However, there are some disadvantages. Sometimes, the weather is not in a good condition. It would be hard for you to sleep in a tent beacuse you are feeling uncomfortable. Moreover, insects and mosquitoes are annoying sometime. It would be best option to take sleeping bags, warm clothes, comfortable shoes and insects repellent with you.
I hope you will enjoy your trip. Take care and give my best regards to your family.
Yours lovely,
Arsh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The letter responds to the camping topic and gives relevant reasons your friend might enjoy it, including outdoor scenery, hiking and taking pictures. It also mentions drawbacks such as uncomfortable sleeping conditions, poor weather and insects. However, the task is addressed only minimally overall because one required point is missing: you never say whether you would like to go camping with Simran this summer. The advice is also brief and not fully developed; for example, the reasons for enjoying the trip are listed rather than explained. To strengthen the response, clearly state whether you can join her and add a little explanation to each main point.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a recognisable opening, a sequence of advice and disadvantages, and a closing, so the reader can follow its general purpose. Connectors such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “However,” and “Moreover” help signal the order of ideas. However, progression is somewhat mechanical, with several points presented as a list rather than developed into a connected message. The advice about equipment also appears abruptly after the disadvantages. Use clearer paragraphing for enjoyment, drawbacks and your own plans, and link each suggestion to the problem it addresses. This would make the organisation feel more natural and the relationships between ideas clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “camping,” “hiking,” “tent,” “sleeping bags,” and “insects repellent.” There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “beautiful scenery.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “enjoy a hiking,” “weather is not in a good condition,” and “Yours lovely.” Spelling errors such as “beacuse” and “scenary” are noticeable. Aim for more natural phrases and check spelling carefully; for example, say “go hiking,” “the weather may be poor,” and use a conventional friendly sign-off such as “Best wishes.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses mostly straightforward sentence patterns, with some attempts to combine ideas using “because,” “and,” and “However.” The meaning is generally understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. Examples include “you can enjoy a hiking,” where the article and noun form do not fit, and “you are feeling uncomfortable,” which uses an awkward tense for a general prediction. “It would be best option” also needs an article. Most sentences are simple, so there is limited variety in structure. Practise accurate articles and verb forms, and try a few controlled complex sentences, such as explaining that camping may be uncomfortable if the weather is cold or wet.
